I take issue eith, that Prince needed forgiveness. He was very silent about his bands shortcomings in the press. When he did. Like say fink was a horrible at improv mfers lost their minds yet it was true. He requested that ebony take the interview down as he spoke his version of the truth. [Edited 9/5/16 16:49pm] |

Wasn't that more of an artistic and personal dispute than a labor dispute? In other words, W and L wanted more credit and more input into the music (and the stuff with Susanah as well). Prince eventually fired the Revolution because he wanted to move onto something else. Maybe, I got that wrong but that's the impression I got.
i recently read in alan lights book that wendy said the beginning of the end was when Prince caught wendy walking in public with a beer, he chewed her out, and as such, tifs and grievances begin. I think there was also the issue of sexuality with prince screaming to W&L that they would "rot in hell" for being lesbians and then we have Prince's ever blackening his music with horns and Wendy saying it sounded like a soul revue. Like I said, it's pretty simple, with a band, each person wants more and more and more until things reach the breaking point. guarantee you wendy wouldn't have been bithching about anything when she was first hired, she'd never even played a gig right? Prince was a bit of a dick about song credits on sott, he erased some of their work if lore is to be believed.
And he also cut her pay $500.00 for drinking in public. Yes, that was pretty much the end. [Edited 9/5/16 19:03pm] |

According to Morris Day, they worked out their differences and was in a good place.
Morris also mentioned that him and Prince over the decades would sometimes be in a bad place but they always came back together in the end.
Andre Cymone said the same thing, the last time he saw Prince was in 2014 but the last time he spoke to Prince was 2 days before he died and Prince told him that they were going to get together when he comes to LA soon.
I think some people did and some didn't. Keep in mind, everybody that Prince worked with was NOT his friend or a personal associate. And that included Band Members and other associates he might have hired.
It's the same way in our personal lives. Everybody we went to school with and had fun with or people we worked with and may had been work friends perhaps were not life friends or in your inner circle forever. This is the same with Prince. |

where did you hear that part? also, he seemed to always somehow manage to screw up when w&L were ready to meet him halfway, you know, the saying that he wouldn't work with them again until the renounced their sexuality. It almost seems like he had a grudge that carried on and he just let it manifest itself in different ways. |

people were upset at that? I read that, it was interesting, I didn't know Fink didn't improv but I believe, not all musicians have the same strengths, i can't improve one bit, not one bit. funny thing about musicians, and I've been around, it's like they can't, not just won't, but can't admit to any shortcomings. I remember one of my teachers getting pissed at me for saying "i don't know if you can improvise" I wasn't knocking him at all, some of the worlds best can't improvise, but musicians, being insecure, arrogant and hypersensitive will always insist they can do everything. I got news for you, no one can do everything, prince was about as good as it gets when it comes to someone doing everything, many of the greats could only do a couple things well and sucked at many others. Anyway, I took that interview as Prince just making valid and realistic points about musicians. |

Prince was going to reunite with the Revolution 1999 for the Roadhouse garden album
If you read interviews from 1997-1998/99 Prince is talking about each member a few times in interviews talking about what he loved about their playing and talking about those 1980s times calling them a Community. On his 1997 album Emanicipation he dedicated the songs In This Bed I Scream to Wendy Susannah & Lisa. He was hanging out with the various members more and Bobby Z talked about the first time being at Paisley Park with Prince in a long time. In a 1998 Interview he talked a lil about Susannah, also said Forever In My Life was about her. This all leading up to the getting them together to do the Roadhouse Garden Album. Also I believe Prince was in a good place having married Mayte and all, but it seemed once the good feeling soured after having lost their child and the marriage ending near the end of 1999, Prince seemed to darken again. He told Wendy Lisa he wasn't going to pay them for any work on the Roadhouse Garden album and the whole lesbian stuff came up.

I thought the anti-homosexual stance was much later--during his JW day? and long did it actually continue (considering W and L eventually seemed to forgive him even though they stated that they were unable to forgive a producer who was homophobic?)
After all, as late as 1995, he sang about women kissing each other on the dance floor in 319 and on the Lovesexy tour, he had Cat and Sheila E leave him to walk off with one another hand-in-hand and in a suggestive way during a song.
The rot in hell comment came from an arugument that had with him about his running around on Susan. I take it as him just shooting back at them for being in his business. I doubt he disliked lesibian since Robyn Power said he loved having her go out and find girls for their get togethers.
"Prince's ever blackening his music with horns and Wendy saying it sounded like a soul revue."
This type of shit from Wendy pissed me off. Even they way she stopped Andre from Jamming the first night of the concerts. WTF is wrong with her more than half of P music is RnB/Funk.
Some of the same men that are against homosexuality(male) get off on female homosexuality.
Wendy had no issue withthe horns, she was addressing the band set up, she also wasn't cool with having to share the stage with Susannah. So race had nothing to do with it. The band set up wasn't the original and it only happened last minute because the Family broke up. Susannah Eric Jerome Gilber Wally Miko were all the live Family band. I too didn't like how Brownmark was put in the back of the 3 dancers.
I also wonder if Eddie M was originally going to come on as sax player with the Revolution prior to this.
And the recent Revolution concerts. There as no drama, she didn't 'stop Andre from jamming' U just created an unrealistic issue there. She obviously has no issue at all with RnB/Funk when she said she fell in love with Prince when she was dancing to a song called Soft n Wet at a club. She never had a problem with that and loved that stuff.

For example, if enough of them walked out during a concert, he would have been unable to find new musicians last minute and quick enough who knew the material-- they could have easily made demands at that point. Its not like he could have sued or fired all of them when he needed them so much at that point. Aren't there musician unions as well? James Browns' band once tried that. Guess what, next thing you know, Bootsy Collins and his brother Phelps were on a plane from Cincinatti to become The JBs while the old band were looking for a job! |

If she does not have credit on the song she needs to stop saying she wrote it. Because you told him about your classmate and he wrote a song about it does not mean you get credit. I think the Melvoins are bonkers. |

she does have writing credit on the song
The story of the song came from her life, so why would Prince have a problem? And why have a problem when other people prior to this were using and use imagery and song to do the same thing, even before Prince passed away.

Also I believe Prince was in a good place having married Mayte and all, but it seemed once the good feeling soured after having lost their child and the marriage ending near the end of 1999, Prince seemed to darken again. He told Wendy Lisa he wasn't going to pay them for any work on the Roadhouse Garden album and the whole lesbian stuff came up.
jesus, i'd never heard most of that. why would he do those kinds of things, some of the things he did are just abhorent, no other way to describe it. Also, I wonder if anyone has any clue of why he banned the revolution members from even coming to paisley park.
He banned them? when was this?
