Bootleg Leaks Does anyone think it is remotely possible that Prince was releasing some of the live recordings himself? The reason I ask is because since his passing, nothing new has dropped. I would've thought someone would've leaked something since there's no one now to hunt these bootlegs down whether they be free downloads or even packaged and sold. Could it be the case that no one has anything else left to leak? That would be odd since he recorded almost all of his shows, and so much had been leaked prior to his passing. I know this subject has been discussed before, but that's was when he was with us. Now that he's not, and we've heard nothing new, there may be some merit to this idea. Maybe Prince would drop these nuggets on the hardcore fans every so often. It would be cool if that had been the case.

Really? Aside from the live Glam Slam shows which had already been circulatiing, what other live soundboards have come out? The P&M shows were audience recordings. [Edited 8/10/16 12:21pm]

I am sure back in the day, Prince had some inadvertent effect on boots. We heard the stories of cassettes laying around in rental cars and so forth.
I have always believed that there is a small group of fans that have a lot of unreleased material. More than that is out now. I believe they do not release it to be "priviliged" to have the material. Long time ago there was a Prince record convention in Toledo. There was a lot of fans and collectors.
Mary, the elder lady, who is a huge fan was there. She was cool.
Anyways, I meet 3 dudes who had so much unreleased stuff. The had the Come album in 2 configs (if I remember correctly). I over heard them talking about tracks they had. They wouldn't trade or really speak much. They kept to themselves. After the convention, the tracks were out on the "market".
I know when Prince downsized, the boots and material dried up pretty fast.

I've never put any stock in the "It was Prince that was releasing the bootlegs" theory. I don't see any way Prince would have purposefully let music go that people would pay someone else for, and not pay him.

Some guy came up to me at the Palladium when I was waiting around by the box office and we started talking about bootlegs. He told me there is a group of people who have "the real stuff" like "Purple Rain outtakes dude!" I mentioned I had a few and tried to talk to him about some common ones like the 6-7-84 birthday show, which he didn't seem to know about. There seemed to be some kind of underlying taunt that I too could be part of the in crowd, for a fee. I told him I don't pay for stuff, just trade and leech torrents. At that point I said "see you inside" and he said "Oh I'm not going to the show." . I felt like I was being screened for Scientology or something, it was weird. . Re the OP, I very much doubt that Prince himself has sourced any material to bootleggers. The scuttlebutt is that one member of the Revolution turned over a bunch of his old cassettes for a hefty fee, which is how a lot of the studio outtakes from the 80s have been heard. . If this shadowy In-Crowd who have stuff no one else has really exists, I'm sure it is just a handful of private collectors who pool their money to get copies of this stuff with the agreement it never be circulated outside the group. I know some Who fans pooled their $ to acquire a pro shot concert from 1975 when it went up for auction in the 90s. At that time no one had ever seen a complete Who concert from the 70s in any kind of quality. I knew one of these guys & watched some of it at his house, so it was definitely real. I think they had 10 guys put in $4000 each. . About two years after that, it was released as a bootleg. When I asked my friend about it, he said one of the people in the pool had sold the rest of them out and was in big trouble if he ever showed his face again.

There is no way that Prince leaked anything.
Which member of The Revolution was meant to have sold tapes?

That would be Charles "Big Chick" Huntsberry.

I think much of it came from the constant stream of songs that Prince was writing and cassette tapes and dat's that were either stolen, lost or freely handed out to various artist's - band members.. record executives.. ect.

. STOP MAKING UP SHIT. Prince has repeatedly played unreleased music live. Go watch the PR Live VHS: at least one song ("Possessed") remains unreleased to this day. . Sheesh. . Stop leaving the possibility: there is none. It didn't happen. .
. That's ONE source. There are numerous, often very well-known tales. Prince handing tapes to one-night stands. Prince bringing his car to a garage for servicing and leaving numerous tapes all over it. Prince was careless, ditto some of his band members and employees, and sometimes people sold tapes. © Bart Van Hemelen

He got off on exclusivity and making a portion of his music available only to his "true fans" so I could imagine him being the source of a number of bootlegs or being supportive of certain groups like FBG and 4DaFunk.
