You know any none fans who piled on after the death? You know the wannabees after Purple Rain hit? The wolves came out. Then they left purple town super quick. They even ducked Sign, which shows how stupid they were. After the death do you know any fair weather fans who are no fanatics again? I do notice at lot of newbies coming here. All you others say Hell Yea!!

What is the obsession with newbies man? A lot of people who were fans for a long time but hadn't felt the need to hang out here did feel the need after his death because they wanted somewhere to share their grief. And a lot of people who had been big fans back in the day and lost touch with P at some point (usually in the early/mid nineties) and then hadn't picked up with him because they were busy with their now busy lives, also reconnected with what they had loved so much about him, and came here after his death because they wanted somewhere to share their grief. And a lot of people who were too young to have been around back in the day, and hadn't known much about him because he wasn't that visible unless you were looking noticed how fricking awesome he was when everything flooded the net after his death, and also came here beacuse they wanted somewhere to learn more about him and to share their grief. Why are you so bugged with people joining your club? Have people spoiled your cool little secret? This man made the most life-affirming and transcedent music many of us have ever heard. How can more people loving and listening to that music and then spreading that further be a bad thing? Not like I love my guitar....

Why are you a newbie now though? Why not a few years ago? Weird timing,. All you others say Hell Yea!!

What do you think is weird about it? Because it seems staggering obvious to me. [Edited 8/29/16 9:02am] Not like I love my guitar....

I guess we did invade your club. It was the obvious place to go. People that didn't previously feel the need to talk suddenly needed to. Even more so for those of us who don't know any other P fans. People are just grieving.

In an interview Prince was saying how nice it was that a lot of his fans from the beginning of his career, were now bringing their children to see his shows. He smiled and said that was so cool. So I think he would have welcomed the newbies just as mush as he welcomed us diehards.

Really? Is being a Prince fan only a right of passage after you've been on this forum for many years? I didn't realize Prince.org owned Prince. Such snobbery.

Weird thread. i can barely understand the OP. Who cares how long someone's been into Prince, or why? It's none of my business.

I think he just really wanted people to hear the music. He knew how powerful it is, and I think he wanted it spread as far and wide as possible. [Edited 8/29/16 9:34am] Not like I love my guitar....

OP just This topic has been It doesn't even make sense that someone still impacted by his death after 4 months should be put on the defense. Fortunately, I have generally seen people being more welcoming here to the new members during the past month, so perhaps past discussions were helpful.

Thanks, GH. Since 1982. And was a member of the fan club. All paper and snailmail baby! [Edited 8/29/16 12:33pm] Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

Yeah... you know the type... those who think they are Facebook famous and try to claim every event as their own. I don't mind them though, because Prince deserves for everyone to sing his praises so it's all good.

I've been a Prince fan also since 82. The 90s hit and so did life and Bill's etc. I no longer had spare cash to spend on records, memorabilia etc. I always kept my eye on what P was up to thru the years I just didn't have the time or cash to be a super fan any more. And just because I only joined the org. In June doesn't mean I haven't been hanging out as a guest the past few years. I've only just felt the need to comment. People need to stop being so precious about P. and so judgmental about newbies. It really doesn't matter! There's always a rainbow 🌈 , at the end of every rain ☔️

Prince wrote this quote about a journalist but I think it fits. "Don't worry about what I'm doing. Worry about why you are worried about what I am doing."

This again? I guess I'm considered one of those old fans from the late 1970s, but whatever. I'm just glad to be able to socialize with P fans.

I'm with ya Guitahero. Some 'newbies' to Prince.org are not newbies to Prince at all. And it's an "Online FAN Community" which means it is open to any self identifying fan, whether you're a die-hard who bought his first album in 1978, or a middle school kid who just found out about Prince on 4/21 and connected with his music like many of us did back in the '80s. There's enough room in this club for ALL of us. Every single fan who has ever visited this site--including the most knowledgeable, avid, die-hard, long-time orgers--without exception, started out as a newbie. . To the newbies: If you love you some PRINCE and/or his music, you're IN. I don't care if you started listening to him for the first time 5 hours ago. Welcome to your new home.

I agree. This is not the first time I was made to feel that being a newbie on this site made you lesser than everybody else. I just turned 59 and I've been a prince fan since I was 23. His death hit me very hard, regardless of when I joined or started posting here.
Thank you, GH. From what I've seen, you are one of the nicest members here. I'm also a newbie to the org, but certainly not to loving prince. Like you, it began around 1980. In 85 I made a fool of myself singing on the radio to win tickets to the Purple Rain tour out of state on 'the purple party bus.' I still have a belly chain I bought at the local show that same year. I've only seen him live 4 times. The last was on the Jam of The year tour, in a 5k seat venue at 100.00 a ticket in 1997. I own Crystal Ball, and a rare ATWIAD picture disc, that I've yet to see on ebay etc. I could never part with those things. I lurked here after his death for a little while before joining. Like others have said, many of us joined after his death in order to grieve his death together. I also continue to celebrate his life, and always will. I love you baby, just not like I love this guitar.~Prince~

Yep. Me. I'm 59 and was a big fan back in the days of casettes and walkmans. I remember watching MTV when ATWIAD came out and got that sinking feeling. I spent the next 25 or so years in the childraising raising/ RN night shift job grind so entertainment went out along with alot of other things. When P died, I realized to my eternal regret what I missed. I joined the ORG in June but then quit due to guilt about intruding into an almost sacred site. After 2 weeks I couldn't stay away and rejoined. Guess I'm addicted to Prince. I thank the members who have shared their pictures and memories and welcomed me.
