Remembering the Musicology tour & 2004
I have only been fortunate to attend one concert ever - due to life, and some seriously unfortunate luck with regards to Prince & Vancouver. It was the Musicology concert - in Seattle! It was such an exceptional night and I cherish the memory so very much.
2004 was a STELLAR year for Prince, with an award winning tour, the unforgettable Prince & Beyonce performance at the 46th Grammys and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - the speech of Alicia was used to open his shows during that tour! I think it would be pretty special if Paisley Park releases some sort of 2004: Musicology Collection, the Live Shows, the interviews & the induction! There were so many TV spots for this tour, exceptional interviews and performances all across the board. If they could release a collection, and could put top 4 Musicology shows - what would you like to see?
I mean, we know we want ALL the concerts released in time - I want to collect and cherish them all, but I just think this would be special! Did you attend any Musicology show(s)? Share your memories
Also, if there any other 'collections' U would also like to see?
Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

I went to see him in Sydney on October 24th, 2003. I was 13 and it was my first concert. At the time it was billed as the "Aussie Tour" and it came very unexpectedly. His last album was N.E.W.S., he'd just done a show where he didn't sing at all and it seemed that he was going through a dense jazz phase and didn't care about being accessible. All of a sudden he was doing a full-on Greatest Hits show and bringing it here to Australia of all places.
The show was fantastic. He was absolutely in top form and I was privileged to witness him at such an energetic period of his career on the cusp of a significant popular comeback. This was the setlist - thank U PrinceVault. As you can see it was an unbelievable selection, plenty of hits with just enough rare stuff. "The Everlasting Now" was epic. I can't I've never been able to find a recording of the show but would love to hear it again. I don't remember him doing "One Kiss at a Time" at all-- that's amazing.

I got hooked after seeing this tour once and then managed to get to go see it 7 more times after that. Spent a lot of money but it was worth it. Even took the whole family once, as he requested.

I was at Musicology in Oklahoma City and it was outstanding! We were in the third row, so we were very close to him. I was absolutely blown away by how beautiful he was in person Definitely a stellar experience. 2 sevens together

That was the last time I saw him. The concert started at 8:00p.m Prince didn't get onstage till after 11 p.m. and the show went on till after 1:am. People were leaving before he even came on. Iwonder if they knew that it would be the last time they would see him here in Philly, if they would have left early?

Loved Musicology tour! Went to 2 of the shows brought 3 of my girls to the first one in Glendale, AZ. We had front row seats at the corner of the stage my youngest daughter who was 6 at the time was with me while my older two were opposite side of stage. We were asked if we wanted to go on stage but my daughter was way to scared! Prince sang right at us many times that night, at one point came way to the edge leaned and put his hand out, was smiling I was telling my daughter to touch his hand she just starred at him in awe..he then winked and got back up. The 2nd show was the second to last in San Jose on Sept 10. I went with a friend when we got there our tickets said we were in row 13 but there was no row 13 I had asked the worker and he said oh...you have these seats row 7 and these are really good seats with family??..anyway I was trying to get front row...did not work My friend and I were talking and got a tap on my shoulder I turned around and then stood up, it was a man all in white face Was in a vail with his eyes showing. There were also two men with him. I asked if he would like to sit down, then he shook his head no then asked ya all havin a good time at the show I tapped his arm ...the two guys moved in but he put his hands out to stop them...and I said yes and can't wait for the show to start at that second after hearing his voice and looking into his eyes I knew it was Prince ...I am a smiley person anyway but I had the biggest smile he then tapped my arm back and he said I want to see you shakin it on the floor During the concert he did come over to the side we were on like he was looking for someone my friend said he's looking for you so I danced in the isle and he nodded his head. Best night ever!! Loved being an NPGMC member!

LOVED this time. Great memories. I remember when Cinnamon Girl premiered on TV (either BET or MTV, can't remember) and that record was ALL I listened to during camp. Yes, I walked around camp with my junky walkman...I wasn't ashamed. <3

This was a GREAT tour and I've seen many Prince tours since 1990. The musicianship from Prince and his stellar band was amazing. It was a really well-rounded and entertaining tour. I went to six shows on this tour. It's my favorite tour of them all. [Edited 8/27/16 21:40pm]

fantastic time for Prince and his fans. Triumphant success when many people had written him off. Alex Hahn had just written a book whose premise was that Prince had squandered a great career. Next thing you know, there was Prince on the Grammy's, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they called it a comeback but it's odd to remember now, Musicology didn't have any hits did it? And it doesn't even seem that long ago I was at the Seattle concert day 2, what he may have lost in physicality from the last time I saw him on the lovesexy tour, he more than made up for in his musical chops.

I went down to see him in Seattle too for that tour. I was there in the 2nd row on the floor, the first night (August 30th). I loved it and had a ton of fun, the only bummer being that at 5'3" and a bit, I could not see him when he wasn't on the part of the X that I was in front of. That stage was high! I ended up straining my neck a lot that night to try to look at the screens directly above my head! I wish I could have gone to the 2nd night and had seats that were off the floor, to be able to see him the entire time.
But regardless, the music was funky and I had a great time singing along all night.

shoulda stood on your chair or even got up onstage. my buddy saw the first night in seattle, i saw the second. he told me that in your section, when prince threw his hat into it, a man got it and another man took it and wrenched it out of his hands and gave it to his girlfriend , i thought that was cold. then, my friend noticed that prince left the stage in a little equipement box that they wheeled past the crowd with no one being the wiser. they also shuttled him in slyly too, i saw a big truck come in, next thing you knwo i heard "one two three four". tricked everyone with a limo decoy.

Our boy was on top of the world that year.... I don't know that I was ever happier to see him get widespread love as I was in 2004 and then after the Super Bowl in 07. The world got to see what WE knew. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

The level of musicianship on display and the talent of this band were top notch. Also, that acoustic set absolutely destroyed, was the highlight of the show and was a long overdue showcase of Prince's singular talent and his exemplary songwriting. There was something incredibly intimate and simple about it.

I don't recall there being chairs, but if there were, I was probably worried about being rude and blocking people's views behind me. I guess I could have crouched on it or something! Oh well. I was also a very timid 18 year old at the time, so the thought of being pulled on stage terrified me. Now I wish I had gotten the chance! If it was me now, no question, I'd dance my ass off. I remember that Prince pulled up a guy at that show, before he pulled other people up, just because he was impressed with his energy and dancing. The crowd loved it, dude had some moves.
And I wish I had noticed details like him being sneakily taken away. I know I was definitely trying to figure out where Prince was right before the show, but no luck.

so it was him? that's just bizarre, how does a guy walk around in a veil without being noticed. anyway, hope it's true, it's a cool story.
