there's also a shortage of SOTT video footage. has anything other than the movie surfaced documenting the tour? i find that quite odd.

no way. is it circulating? i just find it strange that his arguably best tour has no video footage, not even amateur.

The First Avenue warm-up, and "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night (including Cold Sweat - Housequake - Funky Stuff - Two - Take The A-Train)" from Stadion Galgenwaard, Utrecht : 22nd June 1987. And the 1987 VMAs.

The 2nd half of the New Years Eve show at Paisley Park in Dec 1987 is circulating. It's one of my favorite bootleg video shows. Miles Davis guests. Prince is on fire. There are also some really great audio rehearsals out there too.

That...would be wonderful to see. eek I've noticed that there is a great shortage of SOTT video footage out there, but there is a some audio of course. Wonderboy boot has some good stuff on it. While the movie was great, the fact that older material was edited out kind of lost the momentum of some of the sections.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

As Bart said, there is a ton of soundboard rehearsal sessions circulating from Sabotage, including a long session of Prince teaching the band Baby Go Go.

Yep, the audio stuff is great. There's another where he's teaching them "The Sex of It", which is even better.

And then there's also a recording of a SOTT show in Sweden (probably Gothenburg). It's the complete show and I don't have any clue what it sounds like because I do have it on vinyl as a two disc set but I still need to have it transferred to digital format. And my new neighbour has the equipment, so he will do it for me.

You can ditch the Sab stuff. 4DF released better versions based on the Sab releases years ago.

Again, the Wonderboy boot is very outdated.

And really neither is the movie of course. It was all lip synced at Paisley Park, except those few grainy shots in "ICNTTPOYM" and "IGBABN". Albert Magnoli certain did a good job of piecing it all together, but I'd really love to see any of the actual concert somewhere.

I think that we can only hope that there are some video captures of gigs in the PP archive, because news coverage at the time was extremely limited. IIRC concert photographers were limited to SOTT, and that was performed mostly in in dense "fog". I don't think there are any fan captures circulating, and after all this time it would be very surprising for new fan footage to appear now.

.

Such a shame this landmark tour is barely documented.

Yeah, I remember seeing plenty of news footage around the U.S. with the Lovesexy tour. The only real "outtakes", for lack of a better word, of the filming was from a couple of years ago. It was a few hours of outtakes, of Prince messing up, restarting a section, or whatever. Rather interesting to see him work like that. I sure hope something in the archives pops up. There has to be more than the grainy footage salvaged for the movie.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

That one cisrculates on the net as well. Gothenburg and Stockhol show put together if i'm correct.

About video's: let's not forget it is from 1987. We had no small mobile recording devices back then......

Could be, the one I have is simply entitled 'Live in Scandinavia' which could be anywhere between Copengagen and Oslo. But when I look at the recording date it should be Gothenburg. No mention of Stockholm though. However several more performances have been 'glued together' in the past
lol

Good question. The last two songs on the Paris recording are from Utrecht (June 22nd) - The Cross and IGBABN.
I used to have the entire Utrecht show on cassette (just like some shows of the Nude Tour that are nowhere to be found like Heerenveen and Dortmund). But most tapes didn't stand the test of time.
Speaking glueing shows together: the boot of the Nude tour Rotterdam is one of those: the show is listed as June 2nd 1990, but the show ends with Baby, I'm a Star. That's virtually impossible because the show on the 2nd lasted nu longer than 45 to 50 minutes due to heavy rain. So the boot is a combo of the 2nd and the 3rd put together. I had both dates on cassette and the 3rd was a way better recording than the one from the 2nd. They shouldn't do that kind of stuff.
