This news made me cry with joy instead of regret or sadness. I'll get there someday! "Where words fail, music speaks"

I hope that the exclusion of upstairs areas as part of the areas being opened up (I think I read that earlier) is some consolation to those that feel its an invasion of privacy. He did host events at PP and wanted people to come together. . The part I dislike most is the idea of some kind of gift shop selling low quality tatt. It just wouldn't feel right. But selling high quality memorobilia and music would be cool.

Agreed. It's cool that PP will be open for public but it seems to soon. Hasty even. 'Liberate My Mind'

It is too soon for me too - the grief is still too raw. I have such mixed feelings, but it is unlikely I will get there for some time as for me it would mean an overseas trip - but who knows what the future holds. But I don't think I could face it now anyway even if I lived closer. I also think there will be alot of teething problems and things and it may possibly take 6 months to "get it right" on how to work and run it all, so may be worth waiting a little while anyway. But October - that would be wayyyyy too soon for me (it is only 4 months afterall) [Edited 8/25/16 1:02am] Thank you Prince for every note you left behind đź’ś

It does seem very soon. I wonder how much could be generated realisticslly from this venture- i assume the tours will only form part of the building's income. If they had 300 visitors per day/7 days per week would generate around 600k a year before any deductions. Does that foot-fall even sound realistic? I have no clue. Seems like such a problem - Prince's touring kept the lights on. Now he's gone. Nobody is buying music on a mass scale anymore - i just wonder where they will generate enough income to keep the place going in the future. I'm sure better minds know what they're doing. In one interview, Prince said he didn't want PP to be like Graceland. Not sure what he meant, but a reference in TIME magazine after he walked on, referenced a story from 1990. It sounded like he was adding in new directions. Thinking about his legacy and sustainability.
For all the party folks, this first big event will be awesome. I will wait until things calm down a bit--if they ever do:) Lucky those of you who saw the energy in the space during his life time.
I hope it is all done with dignity. For all his entertaining sensationalism, this was an intensely soulful man. His life dedicated to making "great things happen" through music.
The museum should be good for Chanhassen. Seems Prince would appreciate that too.
From the TIME story, Though he kept residence elsewhere as well, Paisley Park Studios outside Minneapolis long served as the central location for Prince’s work. But Paisley Park wasn’t just for him: TIME noted in 1990 that the artist’s choice to center his production in Minnesota effectively put the state’s music scene on the map at the time of its construction in 1986. Prince conceptualized the music haven, and paid for it to be built in Chanhassen, Minn.
The TIME article described the $10-million complex: The proprietor’s favorite black-and-white ’67 T-bird can often be seen in the parking lot. But he likes to keep out of the way, partly from personal inclination and partly from business savvy. He doesn’t want anybody, according to one aide, ”to feel like they’ve walked into Graceland” when dropping by Paisley Park. http://time.com/4303574/paisley-park-prince-studios/ "Hold on to your souls y'all. Actually I'm probably not going unless they include that area with that amazing mural on the wall with Prince and his influences on the right and those he influenced on the left. It was shown in that Yahoo thing and it's just incredible.

I'm one of the "always wanted to go" bunch, but in my case it won't happen for the foreseeable. I'm the sole carer for my ill husband, so to you "actions talk, bs walks", in my case it's "family first".

But... most of the upstairs was open during the 2001 Celebration (and I think the first day of 2002). And there was a shop selling all sorts of (cool) stuff.

The business plan says they're expecting 1500 to 2000 per day on peak days. Apparently Graceland does 600K per year. But you're right people aren't buying music like they used to and there's no tour income anymore so they have to find other ways of generating income to keep the lights on or risk PP having to be sold. Remember it was originally on a list of potential properties to be sold but then taken off. My guess is the tribute concert in October pushed them to open this sooner. They know some people will be coming from out of state (or even another country) for the tribute concert and want to give them the opportunity to see PP. A lot of these people would probably have come to PP anyway as part of their time in Minnesota. I get the mixed feelings. I'm just glad there's something to look forward to and we're talking about something other than his death. Paisley Park is in your heart

What's all upstairs besides his private quarters? When I visited, there was a games room (above the kitchen), a gym (I believe), offices for Kirk and Larry and a boardroom/meeting room. And the doves Majesty and Divinity lived up there. Probably missing something out.

Although it's bittersweet right now, I'm very relieved to hear that Paisley Park is being preserved for past, present, and future fans to experience. I was afraid it would be sold. I very much hope it's successful so the doors can stay open for years to come. Prince opened Paisley to fans when he was alive, so I see nothing wrong with the estate continuing that tradition as long as it's done in a respectful manner.

They called the meeting room "The War Room!" and Miles Davis painting was near the game room - pinball machine and pool table. I was jealous that Prince had a pinball machine(HighSpeed) that was my favorite. Room full of books and Prince had a massive ant farm near the gym. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

I have a feeling this might become the next What would Steve Jobs do. Anytime Apple announces a new product or service and someone doesn't like it they immediately claim it's not something Steve Jobs would have done. I can see the same thing happening here. Someone doesn't like the merchandise, food or service is lacking, ambiance isn't quite right...the refrain will be this is not what Prince would have done. Sigh. Paisley Park is in your heart
