Some people are saying this is too soon as Graceland didn't open until 15 years after Elvis died. But in the official press release Tyka said Prince wanted to open it to the public and it was something he was actively working on. I'm guessing Elvis wasn't working on opening Graceland to the public.

Graceland does not allow access to Elvis' bedroom during that tour. I wonder if it will be the same at PP. Or even the elevator. Forgive me. This news is bitter sweet for me. Would be nice to have a concert playing at all times. I'm sure there is a plethora.

I'm going to Paisley Park for my 40th birthday!!!!!! I've been planning a trip there since I as 14 years old. This man and his music shaped me since I was 6. I always thought he'd be there when I finally made the trip so this is bittersweet. I'm so glad that they're following through with his wishes. I hope they will include music edcuation programs for children who might not be able to get the training otherwise. I'm crying and smiling at the same time right now. So many feelings...

I hope this does well. Winter in MN isn't likely to draw the crowds. I hope this stands the test of time like Graceland

I may be in the minority, but I don't feel happy about this at all, just sad. My main attraction to Paisley Park is gone forever, so I have no desire to visit it, or walk through there. Paisley Park to me now, is where Prince died, having once lived there. Glad for all of you that will go, and find the news exciting, but it's just not for me.

Folks on the NPG Underground and Housequake pages are already crying about it being too soon blah blah blah

I know our wounds are still fresh but My exact quote was "fan love does not pay tax bills" I'm excited that the estate has something they can make money from and it may take time but I'm sure it will eventually be amazing. I'll be spending my little change to go for sure.

For everyone complaining it's too soon they should read what Tyka said.

β€œOpening Paisley Park is something that Prince always wanted to do and was actively working on,” stated Tyka Nelson, Prince’s sister. β€œOnly a few hundred people have had the rare opportunity to tour the estate during his lifetime. Now, fans from around the world will be able to experience Prince’s world for the first time as we open the doors to this incredible place.”

I'm sure there will be people from out state getting tickets to the tribute concert and so the family wants to give them the opportunity to see PP while they're here. For some they might not easily be able to come back, especially if they're coming from far away.

Come on, maybe it is too soon for some, after all, the man just passed in April. Let's not put down others that are still reeling from his death, and are not ready for the news of touring Paisley Park just yet.

I totally understand. It sounds like Prince was already working on opening it up. Also there's bills and taxes to pay and then money is not coming in like it used to so this is a way to generate the money needed to keep PP from having to be sold or completely shut down. I don't think Prince would want it to sit there empty.

I remember discussion about wanting PaisleyPark to be a music working environment also academy like school to teach music and music industry business.

I got too many memories of seeing Prince at PP for me to go. Maybe one day but not now. I am sure others will like.

And I get that but despite our and probably his family's grief the bills still need to be paid and the sooner there are multiple streams of revenue the better. It sucks but if we want his legacy to sustain and even expand the money has to be made to keep it all running. I get it if somebody feels it's too soon for them to visit but criticizing the family and the estate for making business moves is bullshit TBH.

Very awesome news, but PP didn't open in 1985.

True, and I wish it all the best, and maybe someday in the future, I'll feel differently and visit myself.

Yeah I feel the same way. Way too soon. It would be better if they actually put some effort into making it a real museum. And that takes at least a year or more. Now it seems like it will be walking right into Prince's house right after he dies, at least for me. But I'm happy for fans, if this is what is going to make them happy.

It's like rummaging through a dead person's stuff, right after they died. Creepy. Too soon and just seems like they are trying to grab some cash.

imo if you look at the business plan, the language is worded vaguely enough for that to happen. 'Other Events' includes 'special sessions' in the recording studio. in future, perhaps applicants could submit a proposal to PPF, LLC for consideration regarding other activities such as weekend seminars.

drfunkenberry says some things Prince was working on will not be in place by October. He clearly has mixed feelings. I get that but one, as he even points out, they might be in need of cash to pay bills/taxes and two, I'm guessing they might be rushing it a bit so it's ready in time in conjunction with the tribute concert (which amusingly enough, some felt was happening too late). I have to believe the things he was working on can still happen. It's not like they can't close it for a while in the winter when it's less busy to do some of these renovations.

Yeah it's bittersweet that this is happening without him here and no doubt whatever the family does some will question if it's what he would have wanted. But I think one thing we can all agree on is he wouldn't have wanted PP empty collecting dust. Or worse, having to be sold because the estate can't afford to maintain it.
