I think most people are good at showing (displaying?) positive emotions but when it comes to other emotions and sadness in particular, most people both male and female don't manage this very well. It still think it's part of life and has its place too. Repression has never done anyone any good. Crying is to some degree a necessary part of grieving/healing.
