The "Sign 'O' The Times" instrumental...

... makes me crave for some more instrumentals.

The 2nd bridge is insane. Tears can come to the eyes.
It's just so beautifully sad, it's like Challenger exploding in slow motion.
Maybe the best Synclavier part ever (or was it a Fairlight?) recorded (Kate Bush's "Hounds Of Love" and
Thomas Dolby producing Prefab Sprout's "Steve McQueen" are tie).

If the estate was to release an album of instrumentals,
scattered across all eras,
based on the musical finesse of the arrangements only,
Which songs would you be in need to listen to?

I would say "without vocal lead" would qualify as an instrumental, when it comes to Prince.
His background vocals are, in most cases, keyboard parts sung.

In that case, I think Adore is mandatory beyond all means.

Which other songs would you like to see in the playlist of such an album?

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams

oh yes! that happened to me too. i listened to the remastered audio of the movie and the last file is the instrumental outro, which is longer and has interesting details towards the end. stunning. also to hear every little note he plays on the guitar is so interesting without the voice. amazing! The tone, the phrasing of every little effing note. Absolutely amazing.

i would love to hear the hear "the Future" as an instrumental. "all the critics" comes to mind, and also "Crystall Ball". Oh, and the entire Parade album. Of course. Off-topic : i cannot get over the 20secs of "the screams of passion" that Questlove played in Rotterdam at the North Sea Jazz Festival. That has to be the initial recording of his without the orchestration and without Susannah. I must must must must hear that whole thing. Am besten jetzt sofort. ....eh...NOW!!

Love...thy will b done

I can appreciate a Koyaanisqatsi-esque view of life, but I just can't find it in me to see tragic beauty in the explosion of the Challenger, especially upon consideration of the disturbing fact that NASA knew it would explode and did nothing. When I see that moment, I think liability first and foremost.

Anyway, I would love some instrumentals from Come. Pheromone, Papa, and Solo would be great to have as instrumentals. This is a bit tough to even think about though, because I can't think of an instance where P's presence didn't perfectly accompany the music.

And Automatic. If there is an instrumental verison of this, I've not come across it. Such a hot song, can't believe I didn't bring it up in the sexiest P songs thread!

Witness 4 The Prosecution.

I mean, those guitars, he never repeated it.
They're building, and bulding, and towards the end it goes nuts,
I mean it's a very unique guitar style, an insane riff, and, as many songs with Prince,
never to be repeated.

Just the riffs and the space. The drums and bass are incredible,
this is all one man.

Careful, there's only a single source (can't remember which one) that's properly mastered.
Either one in the iVault, or the one from the Homemade Deluxe Editions.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

Poor choice of words from my side.

I was thinking about the poor astronauts.
And I get the feeling Prince did too when his voice cracked.

Solo ? Are you kidding ? eek

Automatic is the shit. What a masterpiece.
Listen carefully to the bass towards the end. I mean, what bass?
There's not a single thing going on in Automatic that isn't worth listening to, over and over.
Automatic just gets better with time.

Days of wild, I have always enjoyed this track. The 12 remix of Paisley Park would be another track I would love to hear instrumental.

The outtakes for Question of U, I have always found them intoxicating.

New Position would be intense.

I mean, it already does, but an extended instrumental of Solo would go great with my wind chimes. And no, I don't kid about wind chimes.

God, YES!

Have always been floored by the instrumental version. The space contained within the arrangement is insane. The emotion in those synth chords... the guy was in a league of his own. I miss him so much.
