Prince vs Eminem

Both Grammy winners...both Oscar winners...both had #1 movies...both produced chart topping acts (although Dr. Dre had a lot of influence on Eminem)...both write controversial lyrics that alienate fans and detractors alike...does "E "have what it takes to be the next "P"?

He has youth. He could probably have all of Prince's success and sell more records after 25 years, but I reckon Prince would still be more talented. No disrespect to Em cos he never fails to come back with something bigger and better, but Prince is an all round music genius.

I think I read it in here and I agree that 8MILE is the PR of rap music right down to where he comes home and finds his mom shipwrecked out front of the house...very similar movies...but P raps better than Em wink

I give him 3 years. In 2006 we'll see a "Remember that Vanilla Ice type rapper M&M's or something?" thread in the org 3.0's new "Washed up has-beens" forum!

I'm not an Eminem fan and am not familiar with his music except for what I see/hear in the media, but I rented '8 Mile' a couple weeks ago to see what the big whoop was about him, and because I was curious about all the 8 Mile/Purple Rain comparisons.

The movie wasn't that great but I was impressed with Eminem's acting skills. He was actually very good.

Yep, I immediately thought of that scene in PR when Eminem came home and found his mom outside. lol VERY similiar elements in the two films.

Although PR is about 4389438793843 times better than 8 Mile (imo)

people seem to enjoy comparing eminem to vanilla ice, however eminem has already had more successful albums to his credit than vanilla ice, and a critically acclaimed movie...

also his label is responsible for the best selling rap act right now..50cent..

so whatever your feelings about eminem the vanilla ice thing doesn't really fly at this point...3 more years as you predict would still be at least 5 years longer than vanilla ice's career lasted...

the only similarity between eminem & vanilla ice is skin color surely we're not judging talent based on skin color are we?

don't get me wrong, i don't in any way think eminem is as talented as prince, he doesn't sing, play instruments, etc...but i also don't think he should just be dismissed as another vanilla ice...

I agree that they are both very talented and both similar in ways. I think that Eminem will go far. However I don't think that he will go as far as Prince has. But I do respect him and wish him the best of luck.

U can't compare Prince and Eminem cuz they make two different types of music- R&b and Hip-Hop.

Prince is a singer and Em is a rapper, two complete opposites. The only connection is that rap takes from R&B and vice versa.

you guys take some of this shit so literally...of course Eminem is in a whole different genre of music than Prince, appealing to a fan base that probably isn't that far removed from the Kurt Cobain-Angry Man syndrome (over some phat beats, mind you)...I'm not a Em fan, but I do recognize that some of you discredit the man by saying that he has no chance to be successful down the road. After all, I'm sure most people thought the skinny motherfucka with the high voice who wouldn't speak on American Bandstand, wore high heels boots and thongs and got booed off the stage opening for the Stones would still be around after all these years.
