That's the pic Sheila E said in her book that she had on her wall in 1978, before she met him. She said she thought he was the most beautiful man she'd ever seen... |

Superbowl Halftime Show.
The rules were that us volunteers had to be part of a group of 12 or more so I gathered a bunch of my coworkers and couple of their family members to participate. Only two of them were already Prince fans though.
There were two teams. One team was assigned to run onto the field with pieces of the stage and the team I was on had to run out ahead of FAMU and dance by the stage.
We had a week of rehearsals but dress rehearsal with Prince was on that Thursday and I will never forget it because of the awed expressions of so many people who had never experienced Prince before. We were stationed on the field right next to his gear so that was also where they drove him out onto the field. He passed within 6 feet of us in that beautiful orange suit and everybody was applauding, but my coworker's 17 year old niece freaked out....."HE'S SOOOO PREEETTTYYYY!!!! Then my coworker yelled out "Prince, we love youuu!". He looked right at her, smiled and said, "Thanks".
Then both of them screamed, grabbed me and fell to their knees, taking me down with them.
The vast majority of participants were under 21 and when he took the stage, it was a wrap because these babies had never experienced anything like the phenomenon that was our Prince. He told the FAMU band how proud he was of their musicianship and those kids just beamed! But when he ran through his set and fired up that guitar you should have seen their little faces light up with pure awe and rapture! I will never forget that.
At dress rehearsal it did not rain, so Prince actually rose from under the stage through flames and I was so afraid for him. There was only smoke in the broadcast because of the rain but it turned out really well when he sang PR. He was so gracious, even when the mic accidentallly smacked him in the mouth.
FYI, Prince did play live that night even though they gave him the option to play the recorded dress rehearsal instead. I prayed he would not get eletrocuted up there, but I was so damn proud of him that night.
I wish you guys could have seen the dress rehearsal too though, because it was equally awesome.

Say what Sheila had a crush on P Yup, in her book she said she bought "For You" before she met him. She had his poster on her wall and stared at it every night before going to bed. She said everybody was talking about this kid who could play all the instruments so she was curious and bought his album. |

Too cool! "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15 |

I was watching a video the other day and one of the Super Bowl management people said Prince had four live leads out there, and they were afraid he would be electrocuted, too, but he was absolutely superb with no outward concerns at all about the show. The NFL and the management team adored him - they said he was the best artist they had ever worked with in every way: a complete professional, totally prepared with no diva behavior at all. |
