It's cool for its purpose; promoting the club. I think it was a WLOL exclusive.

Am I right in thinking that's the one that inspired Glam Slam, Love Machine and Gett Off?

Suppose you could say it inspired Gett Off as it has the 'everybody grab a body' refrain and some other lyrics. It has some Love Machine samples and 'Glam Slam' being sung throughout

P rode that "everybody grab a body" line until the wheels fell off.

You know what's worse (and I'm not trying to hijack your thread here), but I heard an unreleased take of "The Max" on YouTube the other day. It was GOD AWFUL. Nothing about the one we know existed. It was bland, trendy, pedestrian, and just horrible. I'm glad he released another song w/ the same title, because if that had been an "early version", I'd be cringing. "The Max" is one of my favorite songs from the 90s.

As far as "Glam Slam '91", some things are better left alone.

And to note: According to PrinceVault, the other "The Max" was recorded in early 1988. The sax line was later used on a Carmen song.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Glam Slam '88 is one of my favorite songs so yea lol I was disappointed. I have been stumbling across a lot of obscure stuff on YouTube. Blessing and a curse. He made some God awful songs. The genius makes up for it though.

I think people sometimes misuse the term genius. The genius was in him hearing music, and recording it - period. Having a Midas touch with constant gold records, or a string of #1 hits back to back to back is different, to me, than being able to hear music every day and put it down on tape. The genius is that the music flows freely, good or bad. Not every idea Michaelangelo or DaVinci or Socrates had was genius. They had a lot of crap. But the great stuff they did have - was life changing. Same goes for Prince. It's not that every song is incredible, it's that there's a song at all. The gift works itself out, and in those results we find nuggets, big and small, we call genius.

"The Max" from 1988 was a curse on my sensibilities. HAHAHA

Yeah, I've always considered "Glam Slam 91" one of the worst things he's recorded. The way that the "Glam Slam" refrain was sung on "Escape" was terrible enough to my ears, but he just had to use it on a yet another song that had some of the worst rhythm tracks he had created... argh.

I agree with the view that "The Max" from the late-80s is an equally uninspired track. I've had to wonder a few times when people here have stated that they "prefer the original version instead of the released version" (and not least because the only thing they share is the title, really).

Wow, most of you have completely different taste then me.

I love Glam Slam '91. I think it's brilliant, and I love that it has this very retro throwback sound in the horns and parts of the chorus to 30's era Hollywood swing/big band, almost like an old cartoon.

I think it also goes hand in hand with the revamped Tick Tick Bang, which I also like quite a bit.

This track was one of the prime examples where I saw he could boldy go where no pop star dared go, on his leaked bootleg tracks.
