Last December meaning?

if your last december came
what would you do?
will anybody remember
to remember you?

did you stand tall?
or did you fall?
did you give your all?

did you ever find a reason
why you had to die?
or did you just plan on leaving
without wondering why?

was it everything it seemed?
or did it feel like a dream?
did you feel redeemed?

in the name of the father
in the name of the son
we need to come together
come together as one

did you love somebody
but got no love in return?
did you understand the real meaning of love?
that it just is and never yearns?

when the truth arrives
we’ll be lost on the other side?
will you still be alive?

in the name of the father
in the name of the son
we need to come together
come together as one

in your life did you just give a little
or did you give all that you had?
were you just somewhere in the middle?
(somewhere in the middle)
not to good, not to bad?

I love this song but now see a different meaning. What do you think Prince was trying to say??? And why December?

December, the last month of the year before a new one begins.
Did you have, give and find meaning in your life?
You only answer to yourself and God.

Did you have a good world when you died?
Enough to base a movie on?

i interpreted as did you do everything you could in your life, with the time you were alloted or did you waste it, it's a great topic and yes, Prince gave way more than anyone had a right to expect.

Beautiful. I haven't looked at this one yet.
Why not choose December. I think it's pretty common to do so when talking about "lasts".
The song seems to touch on a few subjects.

When I found the truth, did I live in it in all ways that means?
Will I walk in faith or fall in fear?
And most of all I love this:
With real love there is no more of this:

Yearning: a feeling of intense longing for something.
"he felt a yearning for the mountains"
synonyms: longing, craving, desire, want, wish, hankering, urge, hunger, thirst, appetite, lust, ache; itch

Thank you for your interpretation. When I first heard this song I did not notice the meaning behind it. I started to pay attention to the lyrics and I realized it had a lot to do with accountability to this life. It is one of his many songs really has made me think.

Last December seems pretty straightforward. December is the end of the calendar year... so it's basically the end of your life... there's no January for you. What did you do in life is what this song is asking

I loved that Santana did this as his tribute.

One is about endings and the other is about beginnings. To put it very simply.

ya, they did a great version, I didn't even remember the song from the Rainbow children, i only listened to the full album a couple times if that. A great track from an album people deride on here all the time.
