How often do you hear Prince's music on the radio in your region/country? Over here in the UK it's so rare to hear his songs that when you hear Purple Rain, it almost feels like a paranormal experience One of the best radio station here (BBC Radio 6 Music) did a brilliant tribute after 4/21, but things rapidly went back to normal again. I don't listen to the radio so much anymore because they don't really play the stuff I like anyway. I have also tried to find a "Prince" station on the marantz internet radio, without success. Do you feel that Prince gets a fair amount of airplay here in the UK? What about elsewhere? Are you happy with the amount of airplay Prince gets in your area or would you be happier if he was played more often? What is the most unlikely Prince song you have heard on the radio before.

Hardly ever Australia either, but that is party my fault as I listen to the radio very little as I am playing him myself

I'm in Wisconsin, so right next door to Minnesota. We have a few radio stations that play a mix of music from different eras so you will occasionally come across a P song but it's not something that you here often.

Am with you on that , very rarely you hear it on any stations in the UK. I only listen to the radio sometimes in my car. I always take a playlist on a long car journey with Prince and my other fav artists.

Playlists are definitely part of my travel essentials too, car or otherwise.

Prince loved to tour in the UK and he is very popular here as you know , but you would never know this with not much radio play and only one number one here. Call me confused . xxxx

I agree, some things just don't make any sense at all. I like the idea of a Prince radiostation though. Maybe the fans should create their own...

The chart issue may be partially due to Prince's popularity peaking later in the UK than in the US. PR was much bigger in the US than the UK but by the Love symbol album it was actually bigger in the UK than in the US. My point is that even here in the US that 3 of his 4 #1 songs came during the early period (When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, and Kiss) and the other one was the flukey Batdance. I think he toured frequently and extensively in Europe after that period, but not so much in the states. His early singles I thin were among his strongest, so by the time UK was really into him his singles were quite as great.

As far as the radio situation, I dunno. He doesn't get much airplay here except for a few stations.

In Indiana almost never during the day. The "Classic pop-rock" station will play Kiss and that's about it. The old school R&B station gives him the most love. Do Me Baby, Adore, LRC, I Wanna Be Your lover and a few more are always in rotation over there (Do Me Baby came on when I was on my way to get dressed for prom and my grandmother shut off the radio ). Ballads and Slow Jams get played during the Quiet Storm.

Wish we could hear all these songs on the radio here...

You never know when they are going to play his songs, but you know they will & you never know what song it's gonna be. They play some great Prince tracks (live ones too) & it's soooooo great to hear right now. They play Days of Wild & a live version of Prince & the NPG - Peach (extended) & they play lots of 12inch versions & always play Purple rain in full!! Today I heard 12 inch of Lets go crazy & Insatiable. Yesterday was DMSR 12 inch & We can funk. They also play lots of Sly, Stevie, James Brown, Funkadelic, Larry Graham Grand Central Station, George Clinton Parliament & the beats go on & on!

I've heard him played more now than before, of course. But I actually recall growing up and hearing him on the radio often on a couple stations. Doves, I Wanna Be your Lover and Erotic City mostly. I went into my old job today (a retail store) and U Got the Look was playing. That was really surprising to me.

I'm officially addicted to PFunkradio.com. I am based in the UK, so listening to it during the day & evening, which is obviously different times to the US & found myself yesterday dancing to 'Head' at 11am in the morning. They played 'God' also, which I have never ever heard on the radio and then 12in of Raspberry Beret. I would say they play a Prince track every hour or two & it's great that you never know which one is coming next.

I agree with you that Prince became known later in the UK than the US. But it was with the album 1999 and not PR, both "Red Corvette" and "1999" made the Top 5 singles chart and his videos were played on the chart show "Top of the Pops" most weeks while he was in the Top 10, that's when I became aware of him music wise. It was with the release of "When Doves Cry" and his video that he really became established in main stream music. There is only one radio station I know that still plays his classic 80/90s music and that's Heart FM. I believe it's because of his struggle with WB and gaining his masters and becoming independent label wise that he dropped off people's radar music wise and radio. Have you notice when you speak to non-prince fans that they think his last album/CD was early/mid 90s. They have no idea he was still making music. Only fans and musicans understand the impact he had on the music industry and I'm so glad that his live concerts are being shown on YouTube because he's finally getting the recognition he deserves from people who weren't aware of how talented he was. A new generation have picked up on him, which I believe is a good thing as it keeps his music alive. Just wished he'd allowed his music to be shown while he was still here, boy could he be stubborn.

Some of you may enjoy hearing Geneva Dance Convention on kdvs.org Thursday nights from 10 pm to 1 am Pacific Standard Time. That's the radio station located at UC Davis in California. It is my show, and I will never stop missing Prince.

Not on the radio, but yesterday a street musician in this French coastal town where I am staying on holiday started playing Purple Rain just as the rain began to fall.

In New Zealand, practically never - but then again who even listens to radio now, with all the djs talking and endless ads for erection supplements, an annoying appliance retailer called Harvey Norman and other crap.

If they do its always big hits like Kiss, Raspberry Beret, When Doves Cry, Cream and very rarely they play 1999. However Prince is on most the time at my house.
