This is one of the songs on my jogging playlist. I love when it comes up just as I'm about to head up a hill - makes me feel like kind of a badass, which makes it easier to get over the top. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Artificial Cage, something you are trapped in.
.
I know what he implies but the play on words, Art Official Cage, doesn't make sense to me. Just keep it simple.
He got caged in by his official art?
I don't know I'm just making crap up. It usually takes me years to figure out what the heck he meant by somethings.
He must b high when he wrote it. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
"We had fun, didn't we?"

Art Official Age. I really do keep that album close to my heart. But it starts with Clouds. |

I've heard this song and find it too mainstream sounding. Yah, Prince was a dance artist but he was more underground and mysterious. The song "Art Official Cage" sounds too "friendly" and mainstream, haha.
What od you think?
I think you should listen to the lyrics. Besides that, the song rocks. I like up tempo album openers and this one is as interesting as it is bouncy. I can't sit down.

Absolutely not. He is describing the world we currently live in. His phenomenal ability to contemplate his surroundings and express them in the most creative, poetic terms is one of the things that I loved so much about him.

This song isn't very "friendly" to my ears. It takes tons of twists and turns and there's so much weird stuff going on.
I agree. It's deceptively clever. And the lyrics are actually biting. I can understand why people wouldnt like it, but it's so madcap and interesting to me. It's a great opening song to begin the story of the album. |

I can't believe people dig this track.
It's unfocused, cheesy, overly trendy and just all over the place. When I first got the album and heard it lead off, I went "uh oh", but was very pleasantly surprised at the rest of it. It was the first Prince record in a LONG time (Probably since Rainbow Children) that felt cohesive, stylistically uniform, focused and flowing and that seemed to have something to say and i immediately played it again.
Whoever said that AoA is a very good album but that it begins with "Clouds" was spot on.
I'm gonna go listen to that sucker right now in fact. |

I realized yesterday that with his newer music it takes really giving a song a chance, and listening to it at least 2 - 4 times maybe, and on different days, to get into some of it. But when I do, oh boy... Ha ha. I find this to be true with almost every album after PR. Prince is the ultimate "grower artist". |

True this. Rainbow Children, Come and 3121 took a while to click with me. 2010, though not a good record, still has a lot of "growers" on it. Even back in the day, Lovesexy and Parade didn't grab me right away like SOTT, 1999 and Purple Rain did. Still not as crazy about TRC as some but it's hard to deny its high moments and its truly stellar songwriting.
Only ones that never really "took hold" or "grew on me" were Batman, N.E.W.S. and For You. I never listent to any of them
Anyway, to answer the question, today it's "Clouds". People recently have been invested in AoA threads and I reaslized how much I love that album and how long it's been since I played it.

Worst song on the album IMO. Not sure what he was going for with that one.
without this song the album would be worse than it is
What? You're honestly saying it's better than The Breakdown, Time, The Gold Standard, Way Back Home and Clouds? Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain. |

Yeah, I'm not really big on The Gold Standard either. |
