Talented DJ or not, there's no identifiable circulating source material of that lush falsetto that is uniquely P's own. It's not Susannah Melvoin or another female backing vocalist. In fact, the falsetto portion appears to be mixed louder than the 'lead'. . Nor does the lead vocal match St Paul's (muffled or tweaked or not); and it is not P's on the 1985 PR Tour soundcheck recording (which is off-tune, off-tempo, and merely a jam session). And the vocals are stacked and separate takes, not just one or two. . If the speculation is that he's using sound isolation, P's vocals aren't anywhere to be found in the mix on the official 'The Family' release; not even the 'scream' (which I believe is merely a faithful St Paul recreation) is P's. . Be sensible. It appears to be a tease of the original Summer 1984 studio recording, with P's vocals intact, pre-St Paul/The Family and no CF overdubs. . If it didn't come from P's camp with a direct blessing, then it is likely from traders with a higher-generation tape source, before the bootleg market came to be commercialized around 1988/1989, that we got most of the other 'The Family' demos from (in lower sound quality). . Perhaps they held out the most succuluent portions (P's TSOP and NC2U) when selling out to the likes of those behind 'Better Place 2 Die', 'Chocolate Box', ThunderBall, etc. Just as the 11+ minute studio-overdubbed demo of 'Purple Rain' was held out to the bitter end (and we were given just a piece of fifth+ generation tape, nails-on-the-chalkboard orchestral strings work that was only the first half of the leak). . Having said that, regardless of the origins of the leaks, I believe he gave 'Screams of Passion' away to facilitate TF project, and that it was never recorded with another artist in mind. 'Mutiny', 'High Fashion' were most certainly recorded specifically for it (even though 'Mutiny' had some personal significant for P as well). 'Feline' and 'Miss Understood', although they didn't make the record, obviously as well. 'Yes', 'Susannah's Pajama's' were likely random studio outtakes with no specific purpose that were placed on the record (SP even considered as 'BMW' for some proto-Mazarati project briefly), on off-time during the Summer of 84 while he was gearing up for the PR Tour. RRD, Desire, NC2U are debatable as to whether he recorded as demos for this album, or as outtakes without a home that were similarly placed on the record. . P's lyrical ideas coupled with his resulting vocal performance, on his orginal version of the track, give it a seductive, poetic ala WDC, quality, that I believe is not felt on St Paul's take. . I promise I remember Prince being in Patti's Yo Mister video. But it's not the one that's there. He was apart from the band in the back and on a higher level. Playing guitar on a big rock? You could see him clearly, but he kept his head down and behind his long hair. I think he was wearing a black leather jacket. Or no? What?

. There are two guitarists to Patti's right (no guitarists on the large step, just dancers). The guitarist closest to Patti looks like Prince, even though the guitarist next to him isn't as tall. Watch the moves of the guy with the red guitar - starting at 0:29! . Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

this is corny. i'm not mad at the fact that he has them and we don't. i just don't like how he teases this shit and gloats about having stuff but doesn't share it. i too wonder where he got this stuff. but then again, he's "friends" with the entire revolution and the family and alan leeds. my guess is he got it from them more so than Prince.

. I just downloaded the ALBUM VERSION of Yo Mister from Amazon. It's a longer version than on the video and Prince's vocals are very clear. I re-listened to what Q had and it sounds the same as my download. . Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Imma have to call Patti! What?

Damn! The vibrancy and excitement of this version of "Screams" comes through even a cell phone. I could play this clip over and over. We need this NOW. It would be the most amazing leak since the clear copy of the Hallway Speech version of CB. Keep your headphones on.

did this leak - i know there is a pretty good version out there, but far from pristine.
TSOP needs to leak NOW | |
