Susannah won't share a version without her vocals on it. She wants to put herself in the story, not take herself out of it.

Oh. lol

Well either Quest has access to the vault which seems likely. In the past few months he's also been around a lot of people who've worked with Prince.

I suppose the only question is if QL is going to leak these songs or merely use them to garner more attention for himself... He's literally more famous for being a Prince fan than he is for any of his own music.

"The Screams Of Passion" is one of those amazing songs that Prince should have kept for himself! It could have been a duet with Sheila E

The entire Family album with Prince on vocals would have probably been one of his most satisfying albums in his catalog imo.

More famous on the org maybe, but outside this place - he has had fans for years with little or no knowlege of his Prince connection.

I'm not refering to the ones you can find on the internet. Besides, they don't include NC2U and SOP?

Why surprised? There are hundreds of demos in the hands of collectors, what makes these ones so likely to leak

I just downloaded the ALBUM VERSION of Yo Mister from Amazon.

It's a longer version than on the video and Prince's vocals are very clear. I re-listened to what Q had and it sounds the same as my download.

.

Yeah, I feel like people were maybe misremembering Prince's lack of vocal prominence in the released version. As far as a "song he gave away" goes, he's all over it with the vocals and backing vocals...

I always figured Questlove was a fake Prince friend/hanger-oner type. To me, this just proves it beyond any doubt. Remember how Prince felt about him using Stevie Wonder bootlegs in his set? Told him to cut that shit off. Just out of respect for P, he shouldn't have played that in his set. What an lard ass.

ha, I was just in the Alex Hahn biography thread, and this makes me think of that anecdote in Possessed where Prince invited ?uestlove to Paisley Park, told him his drumming style was all wrong, then got behind the kit and showed him how it's supposed to go.

I disagree. Considering all the good bootlegs have done for Prince fandom, which translates to good for Prince, why shouldn't Quest mix a boot or two into his set? I've done it, I've heard other DJ's do it and Quest is a superfan DJ'ing a Prince mix so I say yes, slip in a boot or two. It's not like he's making them available for anyone (although I wish he would). Play it Quest!!

Prince asked him specificaly not to do this as a matter of respect. No real friend would disrespect your wishes like that. He has shown his true colors. Your opinions about what you do and the value of bootlegs aren't really central to the issue. I'd hate to think JJ was the source of this leak, but it kind of adds up that might be the case.

Prince did so much for REAL LIFE-FAT-ALBERT and this is how he repays him. Plus he and the Junkyard Band had the most whack Prince tribute at The BET awards, idk.

He did? I didn't know it was a matter of record that Prince asked Quest not to play his bootlegs.

In my opinion playing snippets from bootlegs in a mix is no great transgression. He's not selling anything. The worst thing he's done here is get people riled up about something he has that the rest of us don't. Elitists who have stuff that hasn't leaked should keep it to themselves or share or else they're just bragging and that's not a good look.

Just sayin'... wink

Quest seems kind of loveable sometimes but he pisses me off when it comes to Prince- he's said some pretty nasty things about him in the past. I don't think they were anything more than aquaintances but it's intesting to me how he's close to Alan Leeds, Wendy, Lisa & Suzannah -it's like he couldn't get close to Prince so he befriended them. He even said something like that in Mo Meta Blues -I can't remember the exact quote (also claimed D'Angelo out Princed Prince which pissed me off something chronic!). Anyway he comes across as a super fanboy, and should there be any confusion I mean that in a derogatory way lol it irks me that he would have this version of TSOP!

He did a good job at the BET awards tho! lol
