"I never wanted my music sampled," he says, delighted with his own shift. "Now you can have all the samples you want." In the tradition of records that serve up beats as sampled by the Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest and others, the Artist joins a growing number of musicians who are cannibalizing their original grooves for the sake of beat culture. "This is a one-time buy of a lifetime," the Paisley Park ad reads. In other words: (1) No royalties have to be paid, but NPG Records gets paid directly; (2) the Artist proliferates Prince's influence on the future culture of electronic music; (3) these recordings, like the remastering of his back catalog, continue to undervalue the Warner Bros. archive; and (4) it further deters bootleggers."

I've had a look through the search facility and the last thread I found was in 2013 and is closed for posting (http://prince.org/msg/7/398353). The old thread seems to indicate that no sample collections had been issued up until 2013. Is this correct? Does anyone know if a sample collection has been released since then? Thanks.

The prior thread from 2013 (http://prince.org/msg/7/398353) stated that at NAMM 2013 Morris Hayes said he's currently working on a new Prince Sample Collection for release later in 2013.

Whether this is the same as the New Funk Sampling Series (from 1999) that's still listed in Prince Vault as unreleased, I don't know? Does anyone know anything about this?

I never heard about anything in 2013, but I did watch the video. I really never thought this project would ever see the light of day. As much as Prince is controlling of his media, the sampling thing almost seems to be a total 180º from that. It doesn't surprise me that Prince might have revisited it in 2013. He's sometimes went back to toy around with past projects, but rarely does anything come from it.

Yeah, I'd agree with you - I think nothing came of it. I just thought I'd put it out there in case I'd missed something!
