There was a thread recently about this being on Tidal. Just listened to the samples on iTunes and the quality is the best I've heard these shows in, it does say remastered
.
IIRC these shows were broadcast on The Box so maybe RoxVox bought the rights

Yes it's still there. It's called 'Miami Glam Slam: 3 Nites in June' priced £13.99

What was/is The Box? I may have missed it but I've never found any such radio or TV broadcast in my research, so I'd be very interested to know more about this.

RoxBox is definitely a bootlegs label: https://www.discogs.com/f...6-Rox-Vox, it's another scam sad

I couldn't find any such thing on Purple Music on Amazon (tried both US and UK) eek eek

OK I found what The Box was and the bootleg's promo indeed says it was aired on it but I say BS. For one thing it's not there http://princevault.com/in...d_Concerts and even if Uptown and Princevault had missed it, which is already quite unlikely, I doubt such a spectacular broadcast could have happened without me or any fan I know hearing about it or any orger ever mentioning it on a thread in the 15 years I've been on the Org.

The bootleg promo is BS anyway: "showcases many of his best-known songs" falloff

Also, RoxVox is a bootlegs label, and even if they weren't they couldn't just "buy the rights" to release a radio or TV show on CD without Prince (and, given that this was 1994, WB) being involved.

These 3 shows did simulcast on The Box. The VHS copies I had from 20+ years ago all had intros from The Box.

I didn't know it was un-noticed.

I didn't have The Box myself. I acquired VHS copies in a trade. They started off with The Box logos. They had the simulcast between Miami-MPLS-L.A. Glam Slams. Prince was in Miami for all of them. The highlights for me were Hide The Bone & a cover of Stevie's Maybe Your Baby.

The copies I had were very multi-gen and I've never seen the set turn up in better quality on any of the DVDR upgrades so I don't know the whole story with it. Maybe some scholar will join the conversation?

EDIT: Looking through my discs, I do have a DVD version, just checked it and it does not have The Box intro. Wish I still had my tapes.

My copies all have the Box intro too.

I always enjoyed the Santana Medley. Hide the Bone is great too.

Checked with a friend. His memory is that The Box handled the simulcast between the 3 clubs but did not broadcast it. He was under the impression that the simulcast was hacked and that was the source for the boots.

I don't remember all that. I know The Box was a subscription service but I have no knowledge of them also handling private simulcast.

hmmm

The Box did not broadcast these three shows on their network. Prince hired The Box to do a private simulcast of the shows to his three Glam Slam clubs. Resourceful fans were able to find the satellite frequencies of the live broadcasts and recorded the footage to VHS.

.

My understanding is that hiring out all the satellite trucks cost so much, that Prince lost money on the entire three night "interactive party" at the clubs. Also, supposedly the lighting in the first night's show interfered with the broadcast, causing the static that can be heard in parts of the recording. The next two nights were broadcast in mono, which somewhat alleviated the problem.

.

There was a promo clip featuring Mayte and the NPG titled "Box Talk 777" which aired on The Box around this period. It was basically a promo for The Beautiful Experience film.

.

On The Box network, you could pay a fee to call a 1-900 number to request videos. It fit into the whole "interactive" thing Prince was into then. Prince mentions it during the first Miami '94 show when he asks if the audience members have room for him and all his buddies, but if you didn't have The Box, he couldn't hang...because he liked to program his "own thang."

I searched all the Prince albums on Cdn ITunes--maybe we'll get it later on sometime? Don't think it's possible to buy from a different country's ITunes Store.

Back in the days when people had big C-Band and/or KU-Band satellite dishes (before small ones like DirecTV became popular), you could catch all kinds of weird and interesting "wild feeds," like news anchors picking their noses during commercial breaks, and stuff like that. smile

.

I can't find Box Talk 777 online anywhere. I had it on a VHS tape ages ago. Here's a thread with a little discussion about it:

Listening to the iTunes version and this doesn't sound better than what I've heard before. The repetitive staticy buzz is still very present. It does sound a tad better than the recent release from EYE that has the DVDs of these shows and the first 2 nights are similar to the better boots I've heard, but I definitely have a superior bootleg source for the third show.

All that said, this 3 show set has always been a favorite of mine. This version of NPG is one of my favorite bands and the setlists are fantastic. Hide The Bone, Maybe Your Baby, the Shoop Medley. Love this stuff.

But, remastered or better than circulating boots? Not really. My guess is that this one is sourced from the best of the boots. I recommend the shows but I suggest that anyone that wants them should seek out a bootleg to download for free and do NOT pay these vultures.

I mentioned that EYE's new Glam Slam North 2 South has the video. The sound doesn't punch as much on that DVD but it is good and you get the added feature of actually getting to watch the show as well. EYE's version is for sale too, but of course, it's also easy to find for free if you no how to use a search engine. Go find that one.

In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink
