The Lollipop period

As we know Prince went thru an odd phase in the mid 90s where he was photographed sucking on lollipops for a while.

As it turns out fentanyl and other strong medical grade painkillers can often be administered in lollipop form. I remember learning this as a kid when I was in hospital once and wanted to know why the kid in the bed next to me got given a lollipop and I couldn't have one

I can't help but join the dots and speculate here.. Was this more than just candy and actually him using painkillers from way back then, as also he started appearing publicly with a cane around the same time (mid 90s) aswell?

With the amount of lollipops he seemingly went through back then, wouldn't he have od'ed then if they had been Fentanyl? Plus it's way too strong for him to have been on it regularly for decades, I think.

prince did have a tremendous sweet tooth so it could've just been a lolipop.

They weren't fentanyl lollipops. Google images of fentanyl lollipops and you'll see that they couldn't be a fentanyl lollipop. They are made very distinctively.

I don't have a productive contribution to this discussion except to say I love the idea of the early '90s being Prince's "lollipop period."

Nah, the lollipops were to give an "FU" to some in the industry and a way to not have to say anything when he didn't want to and not have to fit in when he didn't want to. He had a bold, unique, and also sort of courageous obstinate streak.

And he had a sweet tooth.

The canes in his younger days were when he was going through a "pimp" stage. He was one bad brotha too.

But those days he grew out of. Just a phase.

I'm just going to vote for "tremendous sweet tooth" and "enjoyed teasing his fans." Although with his excellent teeth, maybe they were sugar free lollies?

As many as he ate? If they were sugar-free, he'd've had diarrhea all the time. lol

I have the worst allergy sore throats and constant colds, so I stock up on lozenges all the time. Sometimes I'll go through 4 or 5 in a day. I haven't noticed any ill effects whether they're sugar free or not.

I suspect lollys are similar to lozenges, and of course with lollies, you nurse those suckers.

I always thought it was telling everyone they could "Suck It".

What the hell do I know.

They were NOT Fentanyl.

Please remember that we're talking about 20 years ago. A) There wasn't as much sugar-free stuff then and B) when there was, they made a lot of use of sugar alcohols - many of which cause...wait for it...gas and diarrhea.

I saw the title 2 this thread and it made me smile, becuz I thought there was going 2 be some witty jokes or stories. Then I see the parallel being made. Are U freakin' kidding me? IDK why I'm so surprised that ppl's minds can go to such a dark place with everything. 2 think a lollipop appears 2 be something more than what it really is, is just sad. So far he's a drug addicted AIDS patient, who wore wigs, and sucked on medicated laced lollipops for decades while being able to perform high energy shows, knocking each performance out of this world. Oh, and then he commited suicide. What else can we speculate on? I heard he used dolphin sperm to make his skin look so flawless. Yep it's true. disbelief

Yep. And the secret sex dungeon where he makes women call him Messiah. I swear I'm so sick of this crap, ppl say they love his music and blah, blah, blah, then think of every negative or twisted thing 2 rip on him after he's gone and after he had 2 go thru it his whole life. Seriously? The level of speculative stupidity is rife.
