I love your suggestions - although it sounds costly...and for that money, I could possibly wait the long-term and pick up a Schecter/NPG which will retain it's value better than a off-piste replica -possibly?
Otherwise, maybe there are better Luthiers than rareelectric if I start going into $$$$ - Is that a fair statement TXfan?
So - as it is wall art - I am more interested in it looking authentic in detail, with good wood material and very importantly with a proper paint job, rather than the "equipment" so to speak
So, if a set-neck is cheaper (but looks the same as a thru-neck - sold...the size would be better being correct, the angle of the plate - correct...if I can get a durable quality looking plate that won't tarnish, playability not important - then great! etc...)
All about the aesthetics with quality material - because once it's up...it is the only display of Prince in my living room...
I have a Paisley tambourine (stage used from 86) in my bedroom and 3121 & symbol 93 in the halls...together with the "Sign O Times" framed lyrics poster in the bathroom - the guitar is my ONLY display....without looking like a complete Prince nut!!!!!
Over the years, some of the stories on the NPG store clouds - the paint job was pretty poor - naughty Prince!!!
Spades - 100% correct...definitely there are pictures that clearly show spade fret markings...In fact, I think it is the same guitar that was then used for the batman markings - if memory serves correct, could be wrong tho.
Again - I do have some pretty decent pictures showing these - although to be honest, finding those will be far harder than the dvd ...so lets not hold our breath
I guess you could always enquire about what the price increase would be for neck-through and maple; might not be that big a jump. As for getting the other details included, it occurs to me that either they'd want to charge you more or will be glad for your advice in improving their product. Way I see it, the more accurate they can make these things, the more they'll sell. Looking at how well TXfan's commission has turned out, these seem like a real bargain to me. Imagine how incredibly cool they'd be with a few little tweaks in production though, most of which - pickup placement, top carve - wouldn't present any extra effort or cost at all once they updated whatever pattern they're using. Only the correct neck pickup routing would increase labour time to any extent if the change was instituted, but personally I'd be happy to pay a little more over all for that detail to be right...
Cool - so out of interest...
I was looking at central before Prince passed and was seeing a couple of Luthiers doing some great work - all a bit quite at the moment tho!
But they were looking at $1500min-$2000+ for clouds
Albeit they were more for musicians - but as a base price...what would be the difference between electricguitars and what they are offering?
Thanks

I tried to get all maple construction but they didn't offer it for the cloud. I did pay $70 extra for neck thru construction. I wouldn't mind doing this again if I had correct drawings and if they ( rare electric) would follow them. I then would like to swap out the PU's and hardware myself. That would be the best for me. Maybe we could do a group buy and get a discount? |

[/quote] Prices have gone up for these things since April. There is a guy, Jesse Blue who makes a good looking replica. His version has closer dimensions/proportions to the original. The only thing I'm not sure of is his finishes. He likes to use stains on some of his variations but I've never seen a regular painted cloud he's made. His prices for a good replica with quality hardware/electrics is about $3k |

That Cloud is beautiful. Too nice to be put in a glass case..It definetly needs to be plugged in played onstage. The Squier Strat is nice too. |

The Squier is a deluxe model, I got it because the maple neck/fretboard and Duncan designed PU's. The cloud needs a proper setup and gone thru to make sure all is good to play. Just looking for a good shop where I live now. |

There is a purple Cloud guitar on eBay which the seller states was actually used by Prince. I just read this in Google News a few minutes ago - the sale is starting at $70,000.

If anyone wants to pay 70k for a mass produced Schecter Diamond Series cloud that was patently never touched by Prince, then good luck to them! |

This could be interesting!
What language does rareelectric converse in - as I have some asian...chinese/korean friends who could do any technical translation with them
I have seen some very technical schematics somewhere on the web for the cloud in the past...
I'm going hunting and see what can be found...
On central's site...

Lol. And the Certificate of Authenticity states "Personally owed by Prince". Unless that's proper legalese, I would think a legit COA would at least be spelled correctly and state "owned".

Obviously not the same guitar as in the linked video - different headstock, pickups etc... Pathetically weak scam. |

[Edited 7/1/16 7:54am] I have the same drawings And sent them to RareElectric. They said they could build a cloud to these specs. The only thing is I'm not sure if the drawings are correct. The headstock angle and neck angle are different than the originals. Also the body width is the same as mine 11". I've heard the original was 12". I wish We could ask Dave Rusan for the correct diminsions just to know the truth. |

I have an idea how to get the dimensions exactly, but it will take some time and patience. I'm away from home for the next week and a half or so, but am now keen to get started on this project when I get back... |

I think he wouldn't mind too much. Especially coming from a Prince fan group. And if you think about, no disrespect but The cloud he made was a knock off of a bass guitar he didn't design originally. |

The more I read about Cloud guitars (and the different Hohner variatios) , the more confused I get.
For example, I had no idea that there was a black Cloud guitar by EPS (or ESP?) that is used by a Japanese artist. It looks like an updated, futuristic version of Prince´s Cloud. ALMOST the same, but slightly different.

I'm on mobile so I can't post the picture, but Purple Stream on Facebook posted a picture of one of P's cloud guitars on display at one of the Smithsonian museums, beside the Purple Rain LP. That gives some scale if anyone was still wondering about its size and all that. [Edited 7/1/16 19:15pm]Louder than God's revolver and twice as shiny |
