I just received my cloud guitar recently. It's not a bad replica,It's also not perfect. I have a few problems with mine that made me not completely satisfied. First off, I ordered mine in pearl white. I paid extra for neck thru construction and Prince symbol truss rod cover. They did send pics of the guitar in different stages of construction upon my request. I got it delivered to me at right about 30 days. I opened it up ( they did a good job of packing it for shipment) and closely inspected the guitar. First off, it looked beautiful. After looking at it under a light with my glasses I noticed a few paint runs that they tried to buff out (only visible up close with light) and a small scratch around the rear access cover. The string action was a mile high and the pickups seem to be angled wrong (maybe need to flip them around). I think the biggest problem for me was the size ( looks small ), I compared it to the drawings online and it was a inch or so shorter (36")and a inch (11") narrower at the body. Also the headstock is the shorter style further more making it look tiny. Its based on a 24.75 scale guitar.I'm sure it needs a thorough setup to play it properly. I do like the gold hardware, it seems to be acceptable. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it because I really wanted something closer to the original. I'm thinking about making a Prince tribute niche in my home. I have other memorabilia that I can put with the guitar and install glass doors. I did contact rare electric and they only offered $40 off my next purchase, they said it was a custom handmade guitar and would never be perfect. I said ok,cancelling my next order (wanted a purple cloud too). I don't feel that bad about it. Real clouds are going for thousands

What is the price that you paid for the guitar?
Cheers

I've been thinking of buying a one-eyed bass and gold symbol guitar from them for ages, but am still undecided if it's worth it. I don't think they ever made those 2 before as they never send photos (they always send a purple symbol guitar photo)...

Thanks TXfan for your very detailed response. Exactly the type of information I was looking for. Enjoy the guitar you had made! Also like others curious on the final price you paid of your willing to share... The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

. Good post, TXfan. I suspected that site wasn't offering quality gear. Prices were just far too cheap to expect a fine instrument.

Could not open the link and Avast gave me a threat warning. What´s up with that? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Sites like that annoy me. Be upfront on the price you can expect to be paying. None of this "email us" cloak and dagger shit.

I paid $630 plus shipping, which was like $60 I still think its not bad for the price just wish it was more correct. I will post a pic later today.

How are the specs? What parts were used? What made you buy a good(?) Cloud replica instead of a great Hohner replica for a similar amount of money? I have a lot of guitars, and while a Cloud guitar would be cool, I have to feel them in person first before buying.

The reason I went for a cloud is because it's a cloud guitar. There's nothing else like it. I do like the Hohner too, I'm currently looking for a good copy of that guitar (where did u see one for the same price?)as well. If I had the money, I wouldn't hesitate to get the real thing ( cloud or hohner). I've contacted a guy here in the US that can make me a closer replica (full size with top notch hardware) for $3k. I'm still thinking about that. The replica I have was made in China with Chinese knock off hardware and electrics. Not the best, I was going to change it all over to correct brands hardware and EMG pickups. Not sure if I want to throw more money into it. At the moment I'm ok with it hanging on the wall to remind me of Prince.

Kind of tempted now for a 'Blue Angel' version. My hallway is duck egg blue and so my wife approves. [Edited 6/29/16 15:46pm]

TXfan said: [img] They goofed on the truss rod cover, symbol is upside down. They sent 2 extra covers with it turned around. My dog was just as excited about the cloud. Lol That looks like it turned out really nice. Thanks for the description of your experience, and the different issues you found. Could you post some more shots please? Would be great to see in more detail...

I'll take some more pics later. The guitar measures 36" long,11" at the widest part of the body, and 21.5" from the horn to the bottom of the body. The headstock is 6.5" from point to nut. I wish I knew the true measurements of the original cloud guitars.

The headstock is 6.5" from point to nut. I wish I knew the true measurements of the original cloud guitars. Looking forward to more pics! The headstock on your cool new arrival looks about 100% better than the ones on the Schecter Diamond Series guitars - maybe fractionally not quite as wide or long as the real thing, though actually it's hard to tell from just one image. Carve on the scroll looks really nice too. Horn appears a little wide and not slender enough just at the point before it curves into the scroll, but again it's hard to tell without move views of it. Bevel around the front looks neatly done, but it's a bit shallow... Of course, none of this criticism is offered to disparage the quality of the guitar you've got there. I love the look of it, and I think that in comparison to the now very collectable Diamond Series clouds it holds up well - especially in view of the crazily inflated price some are asking for those relatively mass produced guitars these days. I guess what you're aspiring to though is something as close as possible to the real thing, with correct appointments and measurements. It's quite frustrating that more detail isn't available about the specs of the originals. Though I really want a cloud of my own, I've previously been put off having one built by the idea it wouldn't be EXACT, but only a product of guesswork and approximation. It may be important to remember though that there's probably a degree of variation among the actual clouds Prince used: partly from being hand crafted, but also as a result of the builders adding their own little changes. Slightly different scroll carves and bevels can be observed, and actually there's a few out there that are really quite odd - though maybe the provenance of some of these as Prince's own guitars may be questionable! Confusing as Prince's clouds are, I've recently been trying to look at the subject methodically. I'm becoming increasingly confident now that it should be possible to create a truly accurate blueprint eventually...

I have lots of pictures of clouds and yes they are almost all different here and there. I know the belvel on mine is thin, it should be about 1". I have noticed that almost all horn scrolls center at about the 8th fret. Pickup positions are all different it seems. I see some with the bridge PU lower than mine and I see some with the neck PU closer to the fretboard. I know it may seem I'm being a little picky here, I wanted a cloud now I have one. But I do agree that there should be a blueprint standard established for the cloud. I want another try at this but I have to be sure it's right. Rare electric did say they would build me one to the specs of the drawing that's online. The only problem is the drawing is not 100% correct either. The headstock/neck angles are not right and the body is only 11". Also doesn't give headstock dimensions just a drawing

The discussions on this thread have been very enlightening! Curious if anyone remembers or bought one of the cloud guitars being sold at the merchandise tables during the Emancipation tour? Looking back I always wished I would have bought one...I think they were $1,000? Anyone got any more info? The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Connected said: Thanks TXfan for the information. For sure, it's worth it. If you are going to just hang it on the wall You can order it with dot markers instead of symbols and a set neck rather than a thru neck to save money.
