Uptown mag best issues?

It looks like I'm going to have a chance to dive into a complete collection of Uptown mags. I may not be able to go through them all so I'm just wondering if anyone can point me to must-read issues? Thanks!

About ten years I think. I became a member with # 6 which was about the Diamonds & Pearls tour in 1992 and stopped reading it when Rave came out. I think the issues where they did a day-by-day tour report aren't so interesting anymore unless you really want to know where Prince played on July 6 1992. But the articles where Per Nilsen traced the evolution of the Dream Factory and Sign O' the Times were pretty good.

I believe there were 60 issues altogether. I have some of the earliest ones from 1991-92 and they seem to have come out every other month or so.

I always found those album reviews very fascinating to read. In which they explained what the songs were about.

What is Per Nilsen up to? (He asked, knowing no one knows the answer.)

If u r a prince collector uptown posterography issues #19 & #30, bootleg discography issues #4, 15, & 25 (I,II, III) are helpful as well as uptown book turn it up, turn it up 2.0 book, and uptown days of wild book.

Controversy I'm guessing started with parade or SOTT era 1986/1987 my oldest issue I have is #12 May/June 1988 LoveSexy era. My last issue is #43 oct/nov 1993.

Uptown issue #1 is october 1st 1991 nude tour era and my last issue is #60 August 31st 2004 musicology era.
I've always wondered which fanzine stems off from the original new breed fan club in May 1986. I have some issues of crystal ball and new power generation from LoveSexy and batman eras and of course the later official issues of the truth Zine 1998 and 4 NPG Zines that started in 1994. I also have all the prince family newsletters. Ran around the same time as controversy and uptown.
Debbie Oberacker is a name of writer or something for the newsletters. I'm going off memory on that. That are packaged away in closet.

If you manage to find the Days of Wild CD ROM it has issues of Uptown in PDF format. Some like the infamous bootleg issue aren't included but it's a way to check them out and IIRC there's also pics of memorabilia and other things on the disc too.

I always loved the bootleg issues. The album reviews and discographies were interesting too.

I enjoyed the issues where it would tell the story behind a particular album, be it Prince or one of the side projects, always informative and well written.

Yeah, but I don't think anyone is interested in tracking down twenty year old bootleg CDs anymore. The album reviews however, yes, they are still worth reading. thumbs up!
