One of my girlfriends insisted we watch it a day or two after he passed. I was still a mess but I knew she was trying to support me by showing interest. We start watching and her eyes immediately went I knew exactly what she was looking at. She goes "You never told me Prince had it like that!" Definitely the laugh I needed at that time. But I don't mind the DVD. That dancer he had bugs me more than anything. That hideous blonde wig, why? From now on, 4 U I shall be wild π

Damn, I'd blocked her out of my mind I literally only remember his face/hair/body, piano shenanigans, & some Lenny time

Militant said: I don't think it's that bad, it's just that it was frustrating that so few Prince live performances are/were available in digital format.
I mean, for years it was difficult to get SOTT on a digital format, at least here in the UK. I'm talking around the time that Rave came out. For many years, all you'd find in stores would be Rave or Aladdin. There was no digital release of PR Live, Lovesexy Live, or SOTT available in stores.
Rave 2000 is OK, it has it's moments. But it obviously doesn't compare to things like Lovesexy Live. So it was frustrating that this was so widely available and other things weren't available at all. Good points. For one of the greatest live performers of all time, the audio and video recordings don't do him justice. The energy and thrill of a Prince concert do not translate well to artificial means. I guess that was the point..."see me in the flesh."

^ My thoughts exactly. | |

It's already been said, but I'm gonna say it again: those slow-mo insert shots of Prince making "you really like me!" faces cheese me out every time!

We should start a Prince fashion thread. I guess the picture thread sort of is one but one that just focuses on cool/not cool/weird clothes might be fun. I always dug the freaky things he wore.

damn y'all, i didn't think it was that bad, it was also the last time I have seen where he did the splits. I also liked how he did the mj impression during , u got the look i think.

In my case, two words: Kirky Johnson I mean, itΒ΄s a good concert, like all Prince concerts. But, considering that it was his first official DVD in a loooong time...

It's a time where he still gave a new look for each album. Lotusflow3r on he kind of had the "same" outfit. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I think the start of the DVD is great. three classics in a row. But then the DVD looses the 'live concert' feeling. Because of other acts being thrown in at random. Jams taking too long. The crowd not being in to it. At the end of it all 1999 is raped big time.
I do like Lenny in it though (as a seperate performance in itself).

Agree with this. 1999 was a letdown, especially since it was the finale and the theme of the whole show. I guess Prince wanted to try and do something special with it but, yeah, it was flat.

I'm not going to comment on his nuts again here. But seriously, just look at the cover of that DVD. Good god. Oops, I commented on his nuts. ANYWAY, I think there are two primary reasons why I was underwhelmed by the DVD: 1) I had seen so many awesome Paisley Park shows right around that time, and they ALL blew the NYE show away. Completely. 2) I read all the reports of the unpleasant and unsatisfying experiences of the audience at Paisley the nights that Prince filmed. The old purple & black Org was full of disappointment over those events. Seriously though, no other goofy Prince outfit exposed his nuts in such a crazy way. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I thought the whole 'concert' was so lifeless and encapsulated the plastic feel of a lot of Prince's music from 1996-1999. Dancers were lame too.
