Donatella Versace pays tribute to Prince

Donatella Versace has paid tribute to Prince during her SS17 Mens fashion show.

The soundtrack is a cool mash-up of the original 1995 Versace Experience, the 2006 one and never heard (at least by me) remixes of Kiss, Irresistible bitch and The Future

Such a classy tribute! The purple suit at the end was a nice touch.

Nice Tribute.

.

Speaking of Versace....Why didn't Prince design and/or put his name on a clothing line???

.

It just seems to me that if he would market perfumes he could have rocked a kick ass clothing line. I think he would have enjoyed the creativity of designing a high end tailored mens line.

.

Anyone else ever wondered this??

Ash yes..order up, the ruffles . You don't have to watch desperate housewives lol,,,Prince would have made a great clothes line, don't think the designers were not already pulling designs from his style I know I was...

Prince (so I've read) designed a lot of his own clothes. In the Paris press conference he's asked who he's wearing and says he designed it himself. The problem is, who else could wear what Prince wears? He liked to be original so from his point of view how likely is it he'd want people walking around wearing his clothes?

Awesome. Actually "KIss" sounds like a re-recording to me and it has different lyrics.

nice tribute. i had forgotten about the 2006 one. iirc, prince said in a couple of interviews in the 90sthat they were working on a fashion line. i'm sure they went the way of his long form videos. he definately knew how to design for himself.

The "Kiss" re-record was in the 2006 Versace Experience as well.

Very cool. The few women all had Prince-ish styling. The staging/design was rally slick (and sleek).

I liked ending with "My name is Prince" and the purple suits.
I liked the women's suits with the ruffled shirts a la Purple Rain - really cool.

But what's with the sandals with socks, the lederhosen shorts, and hair parted down the middle like Alfalfa???

From this New York Times article http://www.nytimes.com/20...rince.html

On the soundtrack was a remix of “Kiss,” and tracks of the singer bleating out “Versace” and Donatella’s name.

“He sent me those songs five months ago,” Ms. Versace said. “He sent me music all the time. People look for the vault — I am the vault!”

It also included a song called “Don’t Have to be Rich”. I've never heard of it, but apparently it was a big hit. lol

"Why didn't Prince design and/or put his name on a clothing line?"...He did. Back around 1989 or 90 he released some clothes through select chain stores....I remember seeing pictures in the newspapers........"who else could wear what Prince wears?.........Exactly. That's probably why his fashion line product didn't last too long.

He had a limited clothing line out with a clothing firm called Joe Bloggs

Around the time of Diamonds and Pearls I think.

That's really... by Prince?

It doesn't even sound like it would be done by Joshua Welton.

from the discription in the original post of this thread, to the music that is now featured
under the runway show on youtube, i'm guessing that they originally walked to a prince
soundtrack which was later, for some reason, taken down and replaced with a mix by ?
and only featured little prince samples where he either says versace or donatella, which
i guess would be fair use for her.

either that, or the first videos of the event featured a different soundtrack to what the

versace group later dubbed under the show, which sounds like something josh might
have come up with and to which prince added a bit of guitar or something? with prince

you just never know, but this music doesn't sound like him at all. if it is him i'd be very
impressed, since eventhough the 11 minute track is generic, it sounds so unlike prince
that it would be an achievement for him to do just an 11 minute runway track like that.

smile
