Did prince take you from another artist? Ok, secret confession , I love music , and before prince I had another top artist, but then I started spending more and more time with prince music, and as y'all know that's when he's got you, what he said in my name is prince was true My question is did prince steal y'all from another artist?

from about 8 to 11 I was into De La Soul (still am) and Salt N Pepa, but I LOVED michael Jackson (still like a lot of his stuff).. but Prince completely consumed me at 11 and the rest is history. . *

Before Prince came around my music obsession was with Paul McCartney. By the early eighties my McCartney enthusiasm was fading when up pops Prince & the rest is history. Prince didn't really take me away from McCartney as I was already growing away.

he completely blew MJ out the water for me as I saw him playing panio, guitar and dancing (diamonds n pearls era).. whereas MJ was only dancing (tho very well) and barely singing live and when he was it was terrible...

He didn't steal me away from any other artist. I was already into funk bands like Parliament/Funkadelic, Graham Central Station (GCS), Cameo, Brick, Confunkshun, Rick James. But Prince, especially on his second album, was driving a new sound and style that spoke to me on a higher level. I can't explain it. I'm in the news again

Yes. In the early 2000s, I was a teenager and way into MJ. Through the MJ forums, I started becoming aware of Prince. I was all defensive like, "I haven't really listened to Prince but I'm sure my MJ is better." Then I bought a couple Prince albums. Then, about a month later, he announced a ONA show in my city. I went. I was like .

Now that Im in my 40s and REALLY appreciating (or remeniscing) 80's pop/rock, I have a few regrets not seeing great local Australian bands at their peak.

well, kind of, I was a big MJ fan before Purple Rain, not that I stopped, I just liked Prince more. I felt guilty after Michael died and I never stopped being a big MJ fan. Michael also had a bad habit of only putting out albums every 4 or 5 years so that didn't help. I just think we were blessed to have had both of those guys in our youths, those of us who did.

That's interesting.
For me, it has been on-going dual obsessions with Prince and McCartney since I was a kid. But as far as stealing me away from someone, I pretty much lost interest in Michael Jackson once I found Prince. I didn't really get back into Michael until after his passing...

Lol yes. I was 11 and went from NKOTB to prince. Listened to PR on tape and then gave all my NkOTB stuff away.

Funny question. In a way, yes. My first LP was Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent d'Arby and I was a fan of him, but he took two years to record his next album and Prince was just everywhere, so it just happened naturally that I started listening to him too. He kept you busy!

you were a fan of ttd before Prince? I never heard anything like that. Are you in England? I'm a huge fan of both guys but Prince was a good 8-10 years ahead of him in the business.

Did you get to see Midnight Oil? They had a hit in Holland with Beds Are Burning, but they never really became big here. I saw them in concert in 1993 and they were pretty good.

I was a one glove wearing, card carrying MJ fan. No one could EVER get close to him... ....then at age 14/15, my friend said "check this out" Michael had no chance after that. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Yeah, me too. I was Michael's girl in the 80s. Prince had wonderful music, but I just didn't care for his style at all. Now I don't want to listen to or watch anyone else ever again. Only Princey.

From age 11-14 I was a big Duran Duran fan. Then Purple Rain happened and it became "Duran Who?"
I "rediscovered" them years later and loved the fact that they played a tribute to Prince when his plane made an emergency landing (the week before he died). Turned out they were massive Prince fans themselves! 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.
