No Mayte? alright, that's cold. Prince might've moved on from her via adultery and deception by a horrible, stalking, conniving piece of work, but Mayte was still part of his 'spiritual development' or as i would call it 'being less sensible', he should've thanked her. but whatever. That's Prince. neutral

It's an awards acceptance speech. I'm pretty sure mayte was stood next to him. So quick to judge aren't we?

It was 1995.

I don't think so. He might've had a list back then, but working with Eve, Gwen and Sheryl weren't on his radar and Rave came out years later.

This has to be later than 1995 for the list Levi posted because Rosario Dawson is on there and she had her acting debut in 1995's "Kids" and she was only like 15 years old lol I doubt she would have made his list back then.

Have U had your + today?

It's got Eve, Ani DiFranco, even Sam Jennings on too, so clearly it's from 1999/2000-ish. No offense to them, but I doubt they would've featured on such list years later.

Well.. I guess that solves the issue of some fans stating Alan Leeds should be a part of overseeing Prince's vault music, with his name crossed off that list. Lol.

Because he sort had many digs at Prince of his later work.

Or because most of the folks on there are musicians. Alan wasn't. Could be.

Not all of them were musicians. He really had to have second thoughts for him to decide to cross Alan's name off the list. Lol.

Don't over think it. Alan responded to it today, and I posted it earlier in this thread.

He crossed off "Stone" and added in hand-writing, "& the Family Stone".

I think Prince followed Ani quite closely for many years as she built quite the music empire herself and was never signed to a major label. They are quite similar in music making work ethic, philanthropy, touring, etc. they definitely inspired each other immensely. They are both about the same height as I recall.

I don't know the story of how they met up or started working together but Providence is one of my favorite songs.

That's not what makes it important IMO. It's important because Prince once expressed extreme disappointment upon meeting Sly. He said something like "never meet your heroes" or words to that effect.

Steven Parke (and a few others) responded on Facebook and confirmed that Alan was added back on and about 15 more names were added as well. This was an early draft apparently. Someone on FB also said it was for Prince: A Celebration in Paisley Park in 2000.

Yes, I know. Generally, my point was a few of the names on here that aren't general influences and band members clearly date the list to 1999-2001.

No Cocteau Twins or The Sunday's - he was a massive fan for many years.

Quite a few tunes were influenced by the Cocteaus

Sam Jennings on Facebook:

"As I remember it, this list was generated for the first "Prince: A Celebration" in 2000 at Paisley Park. This was printed out and put on a music stand to be displayed in the atrium as people did the daily tours. I might be fuzzy on the details, it was 16 years ago wink The list was revised, names were added, Alan Leeds was added back."
