I hear you. Yes, I do believe that fans were in Prince's heart and we belonged there, so as much I show my respects to his family, I expect the same respect back. Mourning is a very natural process for all of us and I believe it'll be us as, the public, the fans or whatever you want to call that entity, who will carry on his legacy so I think it's important to do something, a celebration that everyone can see and feel. Is money an issue? They are busy with mourning with legal matters? What about everyone else? What about his rich "friends"? It doesn't work like that, even the poor get cash donations to celebrate their life when they die. I don't think they are doing any good to Prince at all. I honestly believe they should do something ASAP. Prince I will always miss and love U.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No, they shouldn't do something asap. They should go ahead with the plan they had in mind -- they don't HAVE to do anything. And like I said, there is zero preventing the orgers who "need" this to happen from making it happen. Besides, what was Spike Lee's thing, dog crap? And First Avenue's thing? Those weren't memorials? Considering Prince's penchant for throwing parties, those two things were actually great memorials, as far as I am concerned. Stop the insanity and let this family alone. Let the celebs alone. They have no obligation to do any more than they've already done. The fact that some fans don't happen to like it is just too damn bad; you need to get the fuck over it, already.

Fair enough if you count yourself so irrelevant.
I mean why can't they just organise a celebration and be done with it? It looks like they have no access to cash as this was reported earlier, right? Why is nobody helping? I don't understand why they are not giving priority to this.

For people living outside of America Spike's and others thing does not mean anything, so I think you should start to think a little outside the box maybe you'll understand better what I am writing about. Prince I will always miss and love U.

Prince died suddenly unlike Bowie and the estate is hurting for money so they're going to sell the tv rights to the highest bidder. Sucks but it's better than the alternatives.

Sad times ahead...
As if anybody gives a shit about Spike and all. There are folks in Japan, Australia and Europe and who knows where else, yes Europe has many countries. Prince was hugeeeeeeeeeeee. I believe they could feel differently about these celebrations so far. No idea! Prince I will always miss and love U.

There isnt a single celebration, memorial, eulogy or TV special that is going to fix the hurt or bring Prince back. (Insert something clever here)

Here's a good way of going about it:
Pretend Prince organized all this himself.
It shouldn't be hard, he was famously out of synch quite a few times. Videos were released too late, momentum was wasted, planning was off balance, arguments deralied big plans, the list goes on.
The man was a musical genius and he could be creative with his business model, but in reality he had too little time and attention left from his music making and life tiself to take care of the rest professionally.

Oh, I understand, all right: you want them to prioritize your grieving over their own. Selfish, foolish, and RUDE. Get over yourself and grow up. They don't owe you. Things were done for Prince already -- you need to organize a thing yourself amongst fans in your country, not whine and cry and expect this grieving family to do it for you. You obviously have time to complain -- use your energy to do something constructive instead. This isn't their job, it's yours. Deal with it.

I feel what you are saying OzlemUcucu, I wish there was a awesome, big memorial like yesterday so the world could experience it. I have been in the angry stage mourning Prince, and at times still go there. But save yourself from that, if in fact August memorial will happen like someone else said it isn't really far away. And someone else said if Prince didn't leave a will (still not buying that, but whatever), then they are dealing with a s**t storm on top of grieving. If it helps you reach out to Tyka and and try to have the convo with her.

I reached the high point of desperation now. I was thinking differently about this memorial thing before this week. I was somewhat relaxed. After listening to so much music, bootlegs and what else not, day and night for 14 days, organising then reorganising bootlegs and albums, writing times, lyrics and so on...for therapeutic reasons I guess, trying to find a closure, I am done. All of this has not given me anything and did not help, I still need my Prince fix and there is no closure in sight at all. I think I will retire for a while now. Prince I will always miss and love U.

You are right. Thanks. That was a good deja-vu. I should stay in the Princely zone. Prince I will always miss and love U.

August or whenever. It's too late already. Why not in 20 years? The celebration is not on her list right now. She is not aware of the impact. How would she know? Is she famous, has she been touring with him? They are trying to maximize profit as someone else here said, other than that there is no point for them to wait. It is not that difficult to organise such a celebration. Prince I will always miss and love U.

Yeah well said, let's try to get thru this and all think that is what is happening. And if the family planned memorial happens in August, great. Maybe just try to listen to his songs only don't look at the footage for a bit. Prince would want us to do as some of his songs said, to Love and if you are spirtual love God, and to just be ourselves and to strive to be better. So you stay in the Princely zone and he will always feel your love from your heart.

Someone mentioned earlier that they are going to have it in the the Vikings stadium. Everyone is trying to make it the first event in that brand new stadium. Two big time promoters are conducting the promotion.

Yeah I read that too on this thread. That would be awesome. Maybe there is just not alot of press on it yet in case there are hiccups in the plan, so as to not disappoint the fans. Having something at PP would be awesome but it just couldn't acccomodate the amount of people that would attend. Even if it's in August I know a lot of people would make the pilgrimage to MN. Whatever folks. I believe it's human nature wanting to be part of a celebration. This is what people do and expect, globally, this is how things are done whether you are Prince or nobody. A celebration should already have taken place so that people don't feel left out and grief that way. Besides, nobody strong enough stood up for him and everyone is throwing out of the window speculative nonsense. LIke 'I never thought Prince would get old', was that Alan? That kinda stuff is speculative nonsense and hurtful. Tyka did she write August? I can't remember she wrote August. She wrote it'll be announced, right?
Somebody needs to start doing official press relases and stuff. Where is the PR team? I don't know what's going on, this is all crazy. Tyka can't do this alone. Prince I will always miss and love U.

I must say I'm kind of offended that some fans would 1) think they know what Prince would have wanted and 2) assume that their grief should be top of mind for Prince's family/close friends. We don't know what he wanted but considering other people covering his music really bothered him we can guess that he probably would hate some Freddy Mercury style tribute with a bunch of artists not close to him doing lame covers of his music. Paisley Park is in your heart

Judging from the few glimpses from the program that found its way to the Internet, I actually think that the memorial that Mayte and Manuela put together was pretty stellar. I just wish it had been televised.

Prince would absolutely like a large elaborate ceremony. Everything he did was large scale. The man was a human peacock. We fams are getting the short end of the stick. No memorial to attend. No real answers on the COD or any underlying conditions for his med use. All we have is speculation, which affects his legacy. Not among us hardcore, but the general public sees him as another rock n roll overdose. His family could end all of that by releasing information. Im tired of hearing that his fans dont deserve answers. We are all invested in preserving his legacy, not just his immediate family. Im beyond frustrated at all of this. Its disrespect towards the greatest entertainer of all time. ALL TIME! But, he was soooo much more than an entertainer. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Its pretty much over...Im not holding my breath any more waiting on this supposed memorial. I do agree with u though that Princes fans pretty much got the shaft. We bought his albums and supported him for years and yes that means we supported his family and endeavors too and we got nothing. Truly sad and a disgrace. My only hope is that Prince knew we loved him and is at peace now.

As far as Tyka goes Im trying to be respectful, but in my heart the way this whole thing played out just feels wrong. The greatest entertainer to ever live cut up, burned and just gone. Shit hurts my soul
