I am deeply upset about the memorial issue

Folks

I was very relaxed the past few weeks and now I realise I will not find a closure until some justice is done to Prince and I am getting very upset. Why are they not organising a memorial for him, so that close folks can talk about his vision and how he would have wanted things, there is a positive message missing that Prince was always about. It's not right, and it's not what he wanted to have, and remembered by. This is about his legacy. All the rich folks that said they were close friends they couldn't give some cash to the family to organise this event? Instead they are all behaving like fans tattoing themselves and talking complete nonsense about the 'if'. I understand there is a lot of mess that needs to be sorted at PP that Nelson's apparently can't even cope, but hey nobody there to help? So once again they just left him there alone even after his death and all his rich friends....useless like they always have been.

There is no point of a memorial in August or like in a year. It needs to be done now. I am convinced that this is not what Prince would have wanted. confused

I am very upset or am I thinking wrong?

Prince I will always miss and love U.

From what I understand they are planning a memorial/celebration at PP, which is where P would have wanted it, I think. I'm sure they are having to wait due to the estate issues.

Tyka announced on her FB page that the family is planning a memorial with details coming soon, likely set for August. She said that she has not attended any of the memorials so far because she only wants to do it once. I'm sure it's not an easy thing to organize — it will happen, though.

I really don't understand what the delay is. Whitney Houston had one within a week or two. Mohamad Ali within a week or so. Where are all these "Close Friends" ? This is very shameful. I feel very bad that nothing spectacular has been done for Prince. Televise it for his fans around the world who loved him so much!

I WISH YOU LOVE, I WISH YOU HEAVEN SWEET PRINCE...

I am going to continue to give them the benefit of the doubt and I hope that people will finally begin to consider the hardships the family may be dealing with.

First of all, Muhammad Ali laid out in EXPLICIT detail what he wanted his family to do and made sure they had the resources to do it with. Ali and Witney both left a will too.

Secondly, there was no criminal investigation inolved in Ali's case and even in MJ's case they already knew that Conrad Murray was the focus of the investigation.

Third, George Lopez had to loan them the $$ to do what they could, which was a wake and cremation. The rest may have been used to file the probate case. They may have gotten help from others as well but attorneys ain't cheap. A good estate lawyer on a high profile case in that jurisdiction? I could conservatively estimate $500 per hour and there is probably more than one. That's not even counting if they charge a retainer and expenses.

The family dynamics and financial situations are in no way comparable. There are things that I would have liked to see happen but sometimes in life we need to set our own wishes and feelilngs aside. shrug

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I have been in grief since April 21 and I feel the need to celebrate him properly so that we can move forward. I assume that they are doing something at the new big arena in Minneapolis on August 13th, but they need to announce it soon. It would be very good if they let folks go to Paisley Park.

Ahh Babynoz, these folks are rich beyond our imagination. Nobody could organise an event for him to honour a friend? Come on, even I could would do this for my neighbour. Instead they are behaving like fans, tatooing each other and all that nonsense talk. I never cared too much about any of them, and I undersand now why. They are very useless. Prince died alone and after his death he is still alone. If Tyka said no these folks cause she thought she had to organise and wait for the money. This tells me she is not doing any good for Prince. I doubt she ever has and I don't walk to bad about people I don't know, but this is not done properly. Prince was hugeeeeeeeeee, don't these people understand. Even Alan Leeds said he had no idea of the impact. All a bunch of nutters.

Yes, I know it's late but what I am trying to get people to understand is that under the circumstances, what fans may want is nowhere near the top of the Nelson family "to do" list.

And that is as it should be.

It's too late now anyway. They should have done that before that mess started with court etc. I am so convinced it's not how Prince would have wanted it to be. It's so disgraceful.

But the fans should be on top priority on their list, cause fans have been on Prince's top priority and fans will carry on his legacy. So they are so useless. His family may not know about these things, as they are not celebs, and have money issues, it's all clear, but hey what about these damn rich folks??? Where are these folks?

If any of this was important to Prince I am sure he would have done what Ali did so that his wishes could be carried out. I have seen a lot of judging and blaming that may or may not be valid. His associates may be fair game but I believe that his family should be off limits since we don't have any evidence of them doing anything wrong.

I have had three family members who died and left me burdened with thousands of dollars in debts on top of my grief. The last thing I would have needed is some outsiders grumbling about it.

We had a guy here last week who wanted us to sign a petition for the family to release the full autopsy report. I just do not believe that I am entitled to have any say about these things. It is not my place or my right.

Obviously others don't agree but that's just me.

I can do without a memorial. I'm afraid it will be packaged and sold, and people will be going around saying, "Look at me! I'm a Prince fan and my guy's memorial is bigger than anyone else's!"

Now, a celebration? That's different. Bring those on, and never let them stop.

Rodeo either way, a celebration is just fine. Prince was huge and if they did actually give a damn they would have done it. They don't and Prince didn't about them either. They have a lot of mess to deal with but as I wrote a celebration or memorial is long overdue. These folks don't even have the capacity to realise how huge he was. His so called his friends, why don't they organise it, they are greedy or what? I don't even understand what's going on but this is so wrong what's goin on.

There is no will needed really for us to imagine what Prince would have wanted considering the output he has given all these years. He was in the game and there is no point in neglecting him when he is no longer here. I am convinced it's not the way how he wanted what's going on right now. Don't you think?

Really? Isn't it rude to expect the Nelsons, who lost a brother and are currently trying to clean up the mess he left them, to think about the fans right now?
What's WRONG with you guys? We really aren't their top priority, nor should we be. Stop being petty. It's not what Prince would have wanted, it's what you want, so stop couching it in those terms. You really aren't that important right now. They have enough on their hands. Stop adding to rhe stress and acting like petulant, spoiled children.

David Bowie did not have a public memorial. I think Prince wouldn't want anything different. He would want life to go on. I had read that two factions in the family were arguing about the August memorial, because each was trying to maximize the family profit from televising the event. But the Olympics are in August, a lot of bands and singers are out on tour over the summer ... The last thing I would want to see would be a memorial featuring B and C list entertainment.

It's not like Prince died and nothing happened. He was honoured by family and close friends (including Tyka) in a quiet small memorial soon after his passing. Then the JW's had their memorial service which was well attended by those who knew Prince and were important to him.

Franky, we as fans aren't owed anything - if the family want to keep his memorials a family matter and mourn him privately, I understand completely.

Thankfully, they have decided to organise a public memorial and for that I'm very grateful. August isn't that far away people… it'll be July soon! I appreciate they're taking the time to do it properly. Think of all the stress and grief they've been through since April 21, I'm not surprised a public memorial hasn't happened. The family has been inundated by slanderous media and legal stresses piled on top of their grief, it would be a nightmare - and they deserve space and privacy during this time.

So don't think for a minute Prince has been forgotten or left alone, remember his loved ones and dearest friends did pay their respects to him in private memorials.

After my mother, Prince was my hero. He occupies a huge place in my heart and I will always love him like my very own brother. My love for him is unconditional and that sustains me beyond what other people may or may not do.

I was in Tyka's place a few months ago. My brother also died suddenly in February at the age of 58, very few people including my own family offered any help to me so we had a small simple service. When it was over they handed my brother to me in an urn.

I simply cannot bring myself to presume that I know the Nelsons situation enough to think I have the right to say what should and should not happen.

It's also important to note that I have not seen any effort on the part of any members here to find out if his family would accept any help in covering the costs of any memorials they are planning. Surely somebody on the org has some connections?

Therefore the same criticism being made toward his friends could be applied to us right here on the org.

Personally, I have made my peace with the situation.

I feel the same way. I feel like I can't move on because I haven't gotten a chance to say goodbye properly yet. I'm sitting around waiting for closure and it's not happening. The Billboards ceremony made me so angry. It was such a slap in the face. He deserved so much more than that... Mohammed Ali's memorial was so beautiful, he seemed so loved and cherished and I want the same respect for Prince.

Ozlem, say the thing. There's nothing preventing Orgers from doing the memorial, or offering to help with it. But that would require maturity, which, honestly, I think is pretty lacking in a lot of ways. I understand it's easier to attack than to really think about how this family is doing, and show some compassion, but for the love of Prince, try harder, folks.

He was memorialized by family and friends -- privately, by those who knew him way better than we did. Since when were we entitled to push our way into these people's lives as if we belonged there? We don't own Prince, and i think some of us need to remember that.

Bowie had some kind of celebration. People that were close to him spoke few nice words on tv followed by his band or bands that he had chosen playing great music, followed by other people that were close to him and talking what he was like and being tears. All these celebration are taking place in America and are not televised, so that they had Madonna on tv for him. Nonsense like that.
