I'm a mutli instrumentalist, with the exception of sax which I abandoned for embouchure reasons. But, I play, guitar (my first instrument), bass, piano, drums, and yes organ which btw IS a separate instrument. To be completely honest synth keyboards are kind of too, with the pitch wheels. Similar to organ with the foot pedals.. Basically, the point being is they all require different techniques and control and mastery over different physical mechanisms.

Two methods... 1) the gentle way - blow on it. 2) the aggressive way - shake it

If we're grouping instruments and P played keyboards, by that logic I suppose he could have been a master of the accordion since he had two arms for squeezing and playing the keys!

According to the net, the Fuzz bazz is a type of bass pedal. http://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/Bazz_Fuzz/p847124_6346768.aspx . Possibly that does more the lighter u touch it, it's sensitive to the touch Mark Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'm sure I read somewhere that Prince played the accordion on When She Comes on Hitnrun Phase 2. RIP

OnlyNDaUsa said: the 27 listed in the For You notes are mostly variations of other instruments.. there are basically 7 or so... but if you include 8 different drums and it looks better.... I also think the list shrinks to mainly keyboards (all kinds), guitar, bass and drums. Don't forget percussion however. Though a rhythm instrument to be played with sticks (or hands) it's always listed separately from drums, no matter who the artist is. I'd like to point out that keyboards might be totally different from piano though. I know people who play Bach's fuges flawlessy on a piano but can't get a decent sound out of a syntheziser or electric organ and vice versa. 'Liberate My Mind'

Don't forget horns. It was in a recent interview by someone (can't remember who) that said that Prince was able to play the horns.

If that is the case, then Prince really was a wonderboy. Maybe no 27 instruments, but definitely a lot. And let's not forget he was able to play keyboards and guitar at the same time. I've also seen him play the guitar with leather gloves on which gave another sound obviously. 'Liberate My Mind'

Percussive wind chimes are literally just chimes that are stand mounted, can just sweep them with a drumstick or with your hand. A wood block is a simple instrument made from a piece of wood hit with a small mallet. Tree bells are a small instrument consisting of a bunch of bell tops in a row that you strike. Water drums are strange, imagine a large bowl with a drum inside it with a bit of water for resonance. Orchestra bells, like the Glockenspiel, Xylophone, Vibes, etc. Finger cymbals are literally little cymbals that fit between two fingers. Fuzz bass is just distorted bass.

Drums 12. Clavinet 13. Oberheim 4 voice 14. Arp Soloist (Standard Arp?) 15. Handclapsandfingasnaps. 16. Slapsticks (?) 17. Fingacymbals 18. Wind chimes 19. Congas 20. Wood blocks 29. Guitar solo 30. Brush trap 31. Tree bell 32. Acoustic guitar 33. Bass Solo . Now breaking them down into groups we have . 1. Vocals (2) 2. Synthesisers and Keyboards (9) 3. Bass instruments (5) 4. Guitars (4) 5. Drums and Drum machines (3) 6. Percussional Instruments (10) includes 3 wtf instruments (Tree bells, wind chimes and Wood blocks and 1 I don't consider an instrument - hand claps and finga snaps. . I don't get put off though, an early marketing gimmick was how many instruments he could play. Prince wa smarketed as this Stevie Wonder typer wunderkind who could play all these instruments, the list on For You is a bit silly, but he was proving his worth. I think it was un necessary becuase I am sure WB, Prince and his first band along with many of the people who dug him at the start, knew he was a genius, as he writing all the songs and producing the album along with the instrumental barrage. . Prince was a breath of fresh air at a time when meat and potatoes rock music and synthesised disco was dominating music (Disco was simple, but very funky music I loved - I guess Prince dug the dance sound but he listed those instruments as he was trying to let us know he was serious and more than another funky young Black artist riding the disco/funk bandwagon). With the list Prince proved he was a one man studio and there was more to him than some catchy dance music. [Edited 6/14/16 4:32am] Agreed. He was a genius just for playing the guitar and keyboards with such mastery! (self taught to boot) Who has that kind of talent along with his voluminous vocal range and showmanship? NO ONE.. All the rest of the instruments is just Prince showing his supremacy, (an incentive if you will) just like the 39 albums he made when other artist could barely deliver 10 in their life time.
