For me it's GOD. I see colors when I hear music. In GOD, I see alotta black (emptiness, space between notes), red (screams) and purple in Prince's voice.

theirs a word for that isn't there? kinesthesia or something? Prince's music in that era was pretty much all over the place in terms of lust, god, light and dark. It just made him more mysterious.

I always found "HAD U" disturbing, and I couldn't quite understand what was behind it. Especially when he sings "fuck u"

For me, 'Crystal Ball' is quite scary. The orchestration, the helium vocals, the lyrics about 'bombs explode/hate advances on the right' and the screaming...it's pretty terrifying. I'd also throw both 'The Cross' and the 7 minute version of 'Computer Blue' into the running.

Love everybody else's choices too!

Three chains of gold.

Some of the lyrics are

So evil girl, if one of us has a date
With the undertaker, which one will it be

Give back the chains - if you don't you will die
Nothing should come between you and I

Really threatening, menacing stuff

George Clinton also did some of that backwards stuff. It even chased his singer Jessica Cleaves out of the studio! He talks about this in the interview that accompanies CD 2 of George Clinton Family Series, which is basically Clintons "vault".

Maybe don't want to hear it.

[Edited 6/8/16 15:33pm]

You should hear it. It's definately the scariest background music, a real freaky and good experimental song 'Others here with Us' it is [Edited 6/8/16 15:54pm] [Edited 6/8/16 16:18pm]

"7-month-old baby died in her sleep
The parents went crazy and cried 4 a week
They swore they heard her laugh in the crib by the wall
They're convinced she's with us if she's anything at all"

eek

Some lyrics, just to think many many years later his own baby died. I assume he went crazy for awhile and cried also?

Dance With The Devil is pretty disturbing

Took this quote from youtube,

For all who like to take songs and art for that matter out of context this song is based on a line in the Batman movie, that the Joker says to Vickey Vale. Not every song reflects the heart and soul of its writer but is told in third person through a character like in a book or movie script. Its a story, and if your honest no matter your religious faith, you have more than flirted with evil thoughts, intentions and deeds..or in other words Danced with The Devil."
Is this what must of you all think this song was for?

This might be a little strange, but I would pick If I Was Your Girlfriend.

The first time I heard it - and I had been a fan for quite a while before I got SOTT because I wanted to anticipate it - the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I remember thinking there was something wrong. It's a totally thoughful track and it makes a solid statement, but it feels so obsessive it is very unnerving to me. Great track.

You're right, it's about a deep and disturbing obsession.

The very first time ever i listened to Others i was alone in my house it was 02:30 or so, and God, i couldn't sleep, i woke up several times thinkin someone had broken into the house; that song really made quite an impression.

never thought it was disturbing or disturbed, susan rogers didn't either, she supported him releasing it as a single, dumb idea.

Also to add - it's interesting that he doesn't have a lot of songs I would describe as scary per say, but there is a lot going on subtextually in his music and there is a very deep darkness in many of his tracks.

Sorry for the double post!

Indeed, there's a lot of darkness, wickedness in lots of his songs, even the sexual ones, or may i say specially in the sexual ones.

Chris Moon told a story that he thinks Prince saw a ghost when sleeping over at his studio in the early days. Apparently someone hung themselves there previously, and it was supposed to be haunted...

i remember a story about a hanging person and a ghost, don't remember it being Prince who saw it though. I'd have to check poplife.
