all the things he recorded when he was a little "off" or freaky. I sometimes wonder about some things. I find his borderline blasphemy to be more than disturbing. And some of it isn't borderline. Makes me wonder what he and his "family" were really into...as obviously they were masters of disguise. Right? Or wrong? Anyone agree? I find everything he does disturbing, because I'm never quite sure what I'm really looking at. As is the case with a lot of his Tidal friends, etc.

This might be a little strange, but I would pick If I Was Your Girlfriend.

The first time I heard it - and I had been a fan for quite a while before I got SOTT because I wanted to anticipate it - the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I remember thinking there was something wrong. It's a totally thoughful track and it makes a solid statement, but it feels so obsessive it is very unnerving to me. Great track.

Also to add - it's interesting that he doesn't have a lot of songs I would describe as scary per say, but there is a lot going on subtextually in his music and there is a very deep darkness in many of his tracks.

that reminds me, the backwards stuff on the purple rain album was pretty spooky to me too. he was the only black dude to do that backwards shit that i'm aware of too.
