Oh there are plenty of awesome songs from that era that could make Parade an amazing double LP. Need to check princevault or my copy of The Vault but pretty sure Dream Factory (and many songs that appeared on Dream Factory as it evolved into Crystal Ball etc) were recorded AFTER Parade was finished. So strictly speaking if you make Parade a double LP then you should only be using songs recorded before it was mastered and pressed (Ie. before it was actually released). 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

According to PV, All My Dreams was supposed to be on Parade but got cut. Dream Factory was a separate project (including Last Heart, Movie Star, Heaven and Visions). I guess since the projects somewhat overlapped there is a similar sound. The Poster Formerly Known As Elephants and Flowers

It´s interesting to see you all come up with such a variety of songs that could have been or should have been on the Parade album considering that Prince thought he had not taken his time to really come up with strong songs. Then again, I´m not sure how serious he was when he said that. I think Parade is perfect as it is. As far as Parade being funky goes ....it IS funky, songs like Kiss and Anotherloverwholenyohead have that dry ,cold Revolution Funk (albeit not as cold and electronic as the 1999-Purple Rain era Revolution Funk ) but when the album came out many fans disliked it for not being funky enough, for being too pop, for sounding too artsy, with all those Claire Fisher strings and slower songs. I think it is a very mature and artistic statement but I must admit I wasn´t mature enough to fully appreciate it back in 1986 because I was too much into other types of music (Funk, early HipHop, Solar Records , Flyte Time records etc.) .

What if....instead of a double album it was released as 2 parts (Like Timberlake's 20/20). Parade came out March 86. Parade 2 could have come out September 86. Then it could inlcude songs recorded later like Dream Factory, Splash, In a Large Room With No Light. The Poster Formerly Known As Elephants and Flowers

Actually using PrinveVault you get the answer to your question (for the most part) as you can make a double LP by combining the different configurations and their out takes. Whatever, I am not criticising as I love Parade and agree there was potential for an awesome double album. I just wouldn't want it to take songs away from Dream Factory/Crystal Ball. Admittedly I'm cheating by extending it to the DF/CB era, but that was really a transition period from Parade to SOT. Since most of the CB tracks wound up on SOT, the leftovers must have had more of Parade feel and thus weren't included. Everything with the Revolution members participating is more Parade than SOT to me. The Poster Formerly Known As Elephants and Flowers

It could have been... but Parade is perfect as is. It's the most perfect album he ever did! Hundalasiliah!

Of course it could have been a double album -- every Prince album could have been a triple-album, since he's always had a wealth of material available. I'd also guess that almost every Prince album from 1999 onward had 'old' material excavated and redone for the new record (taken to extremes on albums like Graffiti Bridge, where much of the material had been written/demo'd 8 years earlier). . I do think Parade could have been a lot better, song-wise. I actually don't rate the album that highly, as I think nearly half the songs are sub-standard. I recently heard 'Old Friends for Sale' -- what a great song, but would something so personal (lyrically) have worked on what was ostensibly a soundtrack album? . For me, Parade is a good-ish album in an amazing period, but I think Prince fans have way overrated it. I don't think it's in his top 6 or 7 albums. Some boring material there.

I was listening to these songs today and Sexual Suicide following Girls & Boys would be hot. Sexual Suicide almost feels like Girls & Boys (with the French horn?) or whatever the horn is.
So much of the Dream Factory music was made during the time period. And so much music from the 1985-1986 period, so hard to choose. I think the weird quacking horn sound on those tracks might be the Roland guitar synth Wendy was playing live around that time.

. Maybe "boring" was too strong a word, but I'm not overly fond of: - New Position - Life Can Be So Nice - Venus de Milo - Mountains - Do U Lie? . 'I Wonder U' is okay, but at 97 seconds or whatever, is just a distraction. 'Anotherloverholenyohead' is good, but not great. . That leaves 5 great tracks: 'Christopher Tracy's Parade' (though it was better as 'Wendy's Parade'), 'Under the Cherry Moon', 'Girls & Boys', 'Kiss', 'Sometimes it Snows in April' -- classics all.

How can people overrate something they love listening to?

Most of Prince's albums could've been double.

I thought the same about Mountains, but has grown on me, i mean the extended version is just a beautiful song, i love Do U Lie and i've just discovered Life and so far i like it.
