Best Non-Prince Vocal On A Prince Record?

.

.

OK, what do ya got? Name your favorite non-Prince vocal moments on Prince songs.

(Don't do songs written by Prince, but performed by other artists. Just official Prince releases on Prince albums -- favorite non-Prince vocals.)

.

Let's keep it to just five favorites.

Mine:

.

Dez -- "1999"

Sheile E. -- "Erotic City"

Rosie Gaines -- "Diamonds And Pearls"

Rosie Gaines -- "Get Off"

Tony M. -- "Get Off"

Good question.

Lisa Coleman purrs on "Head," totally makes the mood of the song, it wouldn't work as well without her.

Sheila E., "Erotic City"

"Girls and Boys": Sheila E. and Lisa on the left, Wendy and Susannah on the right, and of course the Marie France "seduction"

Cat, "Alphabet Street"

And I have to give it up for Tony M. - "Sexy MF"

I'm probably missing some favorites. Maybe J.J. on "Lady Cab Driver" or Vicki Vale on "Batdance"

Tevin Campbell on the otherwize lame-o "Graffiti Bridge". When he hits his high notes near the end especially...

...poor Tevin. Had he outed himself he would probably still be a player.

I know you said official Prince only, but I heard The Time's "The Stick" the other day and felt Lisa's singalong voice was so sexy. But for now I'll pick Dez for "1999" and Lisa for "Head".

Rosie Gaines lifted some songs immensely. She wasn't just a mere backing vocalist.

Yes Rosie Gaines on the unreleased version of Daddy Pop. She was also good on D&P, the song.

I like the Chante Moore vocals he had. I Wanna say on Emancipation? I always enjoyed the combination of Susannah and W/L

So Far, So Pleased is one of those almost-forgotten P songs that really works and could have been a big hit IMO... As uneven as Rave was, if they had been able to release SFSP as lead single (I remember reading this was the original plan but Gwen's label wouldn't give permission because it conflicted with her own releases at the time), I think it would have been vastly more successful than TGRES and may have led to a different legacy for the entire album. That said, as far as pure vocals, probably have to give it to Rosie... but thought SFSP was worth a mention for this thread

ANYTHING with Rosie Gaines. When she was with him I never considered her as backup. I always heard it as a duet. The live rendition of Dr. Feelgood?!!! excited...sheesh. I also liked Tevin on GF. Elisa Fiorillo is great as well. She has a smooth, light, and unique voice.

Boni love i wish he'd released more music with her vocals.

always loved andy allo's voice, especially when combined with prince. they made some great
great songs together.

also love how Tamar is all over 3121. it gives the album a cohesive feeling. but her voice isn't
as beautiful to me as boni or andy or rosie etc. however, it's utilised to great effect.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
