Mostly everyone who makes fun of anyone who listens to Prince has shit taste in music so I completely understand
For example, my parents listen to The Eagles and Bee Gees and this old man who trolled me on a chat room site said Avril Lavigne was better than Prince so... "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

They annoy me heavily, this is a forum board I belong too called Stampboards run by a pack of red necked Australian white boys. I collect stamps and well, but these white boys never take me seriously and you will see here how most of them have berated me over his death. . http://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=70195 Sorry I don't know how to hotlink, you will have to copy and paste the link in your browser and hopefully it will come up, you may get some gyp as a "Guest" but you should be able to see it. . There's two pages of it and for those of you wanting to know, I am Princestamps there. The only good person is a guy called Stallzer who is supportive and positive, the worst is the man called Sheriff aka Australian stamp dealer Glen Stephens about 65 and very red necked Australian. He runs the site and thus can say and do whatever he likes and hands out bans and treats everyone who is not rich and white like school kids. I have been called "A part Maori reprobate who has an eternal chip on his shoulder because I am gay and Maori and like the little fag artist Prince" It si nice for 40 or so posts but gets nasty at the end of page 1 and into page 2 it gets real nasty. . For those who can not see the stuff in the link (100 percent safe, no ads or scams), it starts off nice, I add my bits and then they start saying he was a common junkie who died of aids and opium addictions, they repeat the TMZ gossip ad verbatim and then goad me when it was proven he died of a drug overdose, even several of the rednecks admit I am right establishing the distinction between an addictive painkiller and recreational drug use. . Glen calls me silly for not reading the bit the dose was self administered and says I had a boy crush for Prince (Which is crap I am chubby chaser), and this is typical of the homophobia and racism he dishes out on a daily basis. Most Indian and Muslim members of stampboards have to put up with his, Norm, Vikingeck and many others crap on a daily basis). . This shit is so typical of what I put up with everyday. Our paper had a headline saying "Prince joins list of celebrities dying of drug overdoses and lists him with serial junkies like Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, Seymour Hoffman, and many others. Yeah Prince's love of opiates has really shot his reputation down in redneck tabloid land. . Any way the thread ends with me pretty much in the ascendant and red necked Glen backing off. I'm curious. why do peopel place so much importance in what is said on message boards? I can see having serious discussions, but when it amounts to people being childish because they're behind a keyboard, why even give people like that a second thought? Isn't that was goads them on to keep doing what they do?

good point, i guess i generally don't, but i have to say that honestly, once I lost MJ I took the disrespect doled out to my heroes much more seriously. And even if it was true (as whitney's coke habit) i just don't think it helped to say mean things.

My parents only like the "hits" though. They've been casual fans for decades and they still listen to the same songs
I don't know how they have not gone crazy. "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

I agree with Pete, I've been more sensitive with people saying mean things about Prince lately. Also, I think I'm actually starting the depression part of grief because lately I've been crying more about Prince than I did when I first heard the news. I was in denial and anger for so long, but now it's depression. Sucks, because I had a job interview today and I wasn't quick witted as I usually am and I have to go again tomorrow because they fucked up
And I also agree with BlackandRising, lots of people are childish and have nothing to do but get other people riled up.The saddest part is that a lot of those people are grown adults. "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

I've been hearing it since I was born, I get tired of most songs within a year The only Eagles song I can tolerate now is I Can't Tell You Why because of Timothy's vocals
Okay and I admit I still jam out to Hotel California too. But only those 2 songs I swear "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

I feel you....I haven't dealt with this that much, but when I do hear it, I think about two things; I think about how much they have missed out on not understanding what Prince was about. This could be seen as being sort of holier than thou, but even more so now that he's gone, I kind of feel for people who not only slept on Prince, but have an attitude about him that sounds like it came from the Enquirer. The other is the fact that some people just feel better about themselves by putting others down; be it a friend, someone famous that died, etc.

I got called a troll here, because I called people out when they posted stupid threads talking about Prince as if he were a god or some kind of supernatural being. That shit really bothers me.

I think too. many of the people who have been quick to condemn Prince, are the ones who seemed to have not only disliked him, but understood, knew or cared very little or not at all about him. My detractors at Stampboards had probably only heard of Prince through Purple Rain, his name change and wedding and whenever some scandal erupted. Usually the mainstream media in New Zealand or Australia barely mentioned him and when it did, it was for the whole "Scoop" and "Juicy gossip" type stories. . Here in NZ, until the late 1990s, moral panics were common. Usually an artist (Most likely Black as New Zealander right wing media is very racist and patronizing, especially towards the local Maori and Pacific Island population who are seen as good at league and entertainment only, but all poor, stupid, violent, abusive, lazy and criminal minded) had released a song with colourful language or topics (Examples - Snoop Doggy Dogg 1994 - Impressionable 12 year old listening to a song with the lyrics "If you give me 10 bitches and I fuck all 10, with my niggas smoking endogg and gin" or Sir Mixalot 1994 "It showed an obese American negro male singing to skinny attractive negro females rubbing their breasts over car glass" and Ice T - Copkiller "Degenerative Black negro filth that inflames our impressionable youngsters particularly those of a Pacific Island hue" - Such racist terminology lasted until about 2000 here. . The rapper Del Tha Funkee Homosapien complained when NZ customs agents searched his asshole for concealed drugs and when they found none, one European old officer said "Boy behave yourself, I don't want you whipping our Maories (sic) up into a delirium with your nonsense", even a Maori elder said he could not understand the appeal of these so called rap artists speaking their gibberish and filth to our rangatahi (Youth) and urged Maori children to reject degenerative American black gangster culture. . Prince got attention for sexy MF and the report showed bits of the video, when Prince and The game boyz in their mobster suits were dancing around the 1937 style cars singing about pussy turning into the sunshine. The reporters said "Black American singer Prince has released a song with the fuck word in it spoken many times, it is believed the Obscene Publications department may cenosr the song and ban it from sale". This type of crap is what I faced from my parents as they watched this news and believed it. Most of my rap albums until 1993 were plain tapes I could only listen to on headphones. Both the 2 live crew and Bodycount albums were banned here along with Straight Outta compton, but I got my hands on them. . Starting around 1995, a more humanistic wave came through and rap music was less censored and the newsreaders stopped being so racist and the moral panics were less often and language more neutral was used such "The song by artist Sisqo was banned for images suggesting sexual exploitation of young women" The artists race, or country of origin was no longer an issue. The media racism remains, most of news outlets pounced on Prince being a drug addict saying he recreationally used opium and probably had AIDS from having sex with teenage girls all the time, Mike Hosking a right wing journalist said Prince was another rock star junkie, who thinks they can abiuse their bodies because they are a star. Mike Hosking is our answer to Rish Limbaugh or the Jones guy. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I get what you guys are saying. I've been lurking on this website for years (since 2010) and I even made an account once but I only lasted a month because people kept treating me like a joke and I was just really turned off by all the negativity on here. Let me just tell you one thing, Prince is not the only artist who's fans treat their fave like trash. I know at least 2 other artists who get treated the same way, if not worse than Prince was/is. It's okay not to like every single song and album or everything that Prince did, but this place crossed the line with spewing out pure hate and cruelty more than dozens of times. I remember reading threads years ago thinking "How are these people fans of Prince?" and I used to read that same question being asked to them and they'd get super defensive about it. I haven't been here long enough to judge any specific person, but I definitely believe what you're saying about some people here being trolls/haters/hypocrites. 😦.....

Why would you reply with such an image to my post. All Iam saying is there are alot of silly threads out there. It makes me think that there is a certain portion of prince fans who post some ridiculous threads. I am in no way dissing them, I am however grounded in the real world and not entrenched in some Prince fantasy world. In my opinon, people who post strange whacked out, speculative, and threads about his hip pain are the trolls. I see alot of these kind of threads daily.

This has been going on for decades since Prince was wearing his underwear, and stockings. I really don't care. Really, it's lame and played out. He's in the Big White Mansion. RIP Prince

"we have a couple characters here on the org who do/did just that. i honestly believe these folks contributed to prince's death insofar as they made a habit of dissing, stomping on and deriding prince's work here on this messsage board, which we have come to know is where prince hung out."
Whoever posted the above quote. I Seriously doubt trolls or haters contributed to his death, that is the strangest thing I have read here to date.

maybe it didn't but it was just mean, i hated this place the first couple times around. Those people are backing up now that he's dead but they're here. And, if you look at things like I do, when you are pointlessly mean and cruel you are intending to kill someone's spirit which isn't totally unlike real death. How many people walk around in our cities begging for change, no pride, and most likely it started with someone's cruelty, at least most of it.

For the most part, Prince fans have spent the entirity of their lives defending him to some people. Unfortunately, this is the first time where the appropriate amount of admiration and love was directed towards him. Its a horrible feeling of vindication. Ultimately, I now dont give 2 sh!ts about what others think of Prince. Trollers gonns troll. (Insert something clever here)

.
that was me, i'm the one who opined that the negativity shown here towards prince's body of work contributed somewhat to his demise. . i'm sorry, that did come off as mean if you misunderstand the background. . i did not mean to attack genuine fans and/or anyone who offered their own personal. criticism regarding a song or album. i think genuine criticism is good for artists. . but i was addressing something completely different. i meant those orgers who repeatedly, spitefully, unendingly started thread topics about prince being "over" "washed up" a "critical failure" and so on ad nauseum. people who showed up every time but never had anything good to say. . i said what i said because i think that prince ran himself ragged right up to the very end, trying to demonstrate his ability and superstar talent to those of us watching. imo, overwork contributed to his demise and i childishly blame the bad guys here for that. sorry. . i guess i'm projecting my grief, but i truly wish that (since we now know prince was here a lot), we had been more considerate. edited out some of the anti-prince activity on this website. . i apologize for making such bitter statements, but it grieves me to think that prince might have taken some of that nastiness to heart
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
why do you apologize for that? all the negativity didn't help, especially if he actually did look at it all the time. People are people, and if you focus on negativity, it will have an effect. i stopped hanging around my best friend for no other reason than i just don't want to hear all the negativity which just goes on and on. He doesn't think it's negative but what is it when he's always talking about all these shadowy entities who have power over him/us? We all have obsessions and some peoples just are not helpful with theirs.

i was furious at these people on here after Prince died, furious. still am. I don't understand for the life of me what makes people so cruel. My other hero, hector Macho Camacho had a facebook on which we corresponded, unlike a superstar musician, old boxers are usually forgotten, anyway, i showed as much adoration as I could to him. but other people, his own people, said the meanest shit, and he couldn't do anything right. He never said anything in retaliation but I know it had an effect. One person said to him "you died a long time ago but you just don't know it". He saw that, had to. Hard to believe a woman could be that cruel, i told her she must have had a lump of coal in her chest.

I haven't mastered the skill of ignoring the trolls and haters. Honestly I get angry when they bash Prince. Stuff like he was a womanizing cheat and he should've died of AIDS because he was always sleeping around and cheating on his spouses. Then constantly hearing about his ongoing drug habit. IMO he seemed too organized and on top of his game like no other artist or performer. You would have to be, right? To know what he knew, to play roughly 30 instruments really well, and not just sub-par, to have had almost 40 albums. Seemed to craft his life and career very well and there was no room for error. I don't know...maybe that's how I went to remember him. Prince was too good at what he did, not just with his music, but maintaining his privacy. I don't remember him being associated to scandal. Yeah I guess I am still angry about the whole thing!
