So no one should waste their time or resources honoring him or his legacy since it doesn't serve him a purpose now??? What a shitty thing to say.

You do realize they asked him do accept them a more than once and he said no up until just before he died, right?
Besides, they're basically saying he's so good a self taught musician, he has earned a doctorate, alive or dead. It wouldn't have done him any good alive either, not really.

Good point. It's still a wonderful way to honor him and I'm proud that it's happening even tho he is no longer here with us.

This kind of shit is so stupid. They had 57 years to do something, and now that he's ash in an urn, they wanna bestow a meaningless title on him? That, my friends, is called publicity, not respect.

Well, I'm glad I'm not so jaded and don't see it that way. For me it's a beautiful thing.

So I'm jaded because I see past the bullshit? The title means zip at this point. Watch how many more awards Prince receives post-morteum. Where were all these awards and titles while he was alive?

As someone else stated, this was in the works prior to his death. Prince would have known about it and signed off on it. I think it wonderful that he's getting a an honorary doctorate from the U of MN.
