FUNKNROLL said: You never really think about cremation til it's somebody you know. The thought of it becomes a terrifying image you can't unsee in your head. For me, it was my mother. And I barely knew her. Carrying the ashes of the woman who made me was sublime. I try not to think about it. Guess I'm sharing this to encourage you to not spend too much time entertaining these types of thoughts. [Edited 6/4/16 5:03am] aww just the thought of doing that too a person kinda bothers me

Superfan1984 said: nursev--- I know it's awful but from Near Death Experiences I've read about and seen on Youtube, once the person leaves the body they feel nothing for it. They know it is their's but "they" are completely removed from it and feel nothing for it. So don't worry about Prince, he was already being a rainbow over Paisley Park this is beautiful...thank u

I dunno... when I think of "Rest in peace" I don't think of "Be burnt to ashes". I just never thought Prince would have to go through either one...sad

Made me very upset and I'm normally really weird and fascinated by stuff like that. Just couldn't deal with thinking about them doing it to P. I just hope they didn't do -everything- to him. I hope not cuz it just made me very nauseous and I can just about handle anything

I like to believe what others have - that Prince's soul has already left. I feel the body is just the vehicle that our soul uses to navigate this thing called life. I have a difficult time with cremation, but as a non-believer (I guess that is what you call it?) I think that if we come from the earth, personally I would want to return to it.
One experience that I had was visting a cemetary after a storm and saw grave sites pushed out of the ground by the roots of HUGE trees pines that had fallen over. The coffins were out in the OPEN! And the thought of all the cemetaries that are abandoned or vandalized - like that of my ancestors in Oregon. They were some of the first settlers and vandals went in and moved - with a vehicle or something - the grave markers. Now my gr.gr.gr. grandfathers grave marker is in a pile and since the records were destroyed in a fire years ago, there is no way to place it back where it belonged. Also, there is no money in the budget apparently to designate to maintenance.
But everyone has to decide for themselves. Some states require it I believe, insurance or a whole host of other reasons why it has to be done. My heart goes out to all that are hurting. Please try to think of him in music and perhaps a guardian angel to someone continuing to spead the message of love 4 one another and peace. I can only imagine he would not want us to worry ourselves like this. [Edited 6/4/16 17:49pm]

For those of you that wish there was a burial site - internment - it would have to be something like Elvis' where it was cordoned off so it would not be vandalized. See Jim Morrisons grave site -spraypainted and desecrated. Perhaps in the future when the family is ready -dk.
JW perspective : "Members believe that, “…at death, humans cease to exist. The dead know, feel, and experience absolutely nothing.”[2] Death is compared to sleep, because there is no consciousness, activity, or awareness of one’s surroundings, and there is an expectation of awakening (resurrection). Therefore death is not to be feared as the absolute end, because the dead who are “in God’s memory” will be resurrected.
"Funeral practices follow the model of the manner in which Jesus was buried: funerals for Jehovah’s Witnesses are discreet and modest, without a show of social or economic status. There is no celebration or rejoicing following a funeral. Preference is given to quiet reflection and the hope of the resurrection."

For those of you who take exception to cremation, don't read up on embalming. Ever heard of a trochar?

It's pretty traumatic. A couple of years ago, my 10 month old niece (and de facto grandchild) was brutally murdered and an autopsy was performed to prove it. Then she was embalmed for a memorial, and then cremated. The whole process from organ donation to autopsy all the way through is something I hope to never have to relive. She had to wear a hat for the viewing because of the autopsy trauma to her head. I'm not squeamish at all, but it was the stuff of nightmares. I guess when it's personal to you. I have had similar thoughts as nursev and wanted to seek out answers to my questions but I haven't. I am too afraid of what I might find. I had never really thought about Prince's autopsy until I saw this book on the Tupac's death investigation. I picked the book up because I like 2pac and I like forensic science and all that. I grabbed the book to get a quick look to see if I needed to check it out(I work at the library) and the first page I turn to is an autopsy photo. I loved his Thug Life tatoo but it was gone and I put the book back. I could have lived the rest of my life without seeing that.
Later that day I thought, what would you do if you saw............
So I clearly understand how nursev feels. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Thank You Prince | |

Embalming preservers the body for a long time. It would like he justs sleeping. Instead of his skull and body on fire like somebody in the lake of fire in one of The Terminator movies!!!

Until the body rots eventually. Embalming doesn't hold off the whole process for that long! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

i know just enough about autopsy and cremation to know that i don't want to k ow any more. what bothers me the most is that prince was so careful with his appearance, always dressed nice, always in makeup. and to know that a few, maybe a dozen, people saw him in the death state and that the m.e. and crematory people handled his body and saw every intimate imperfection and then basically destroyed his body makes me sick. he was so private in that way. i know they are professionals and i am sure they were respectful, but he was just there, vulnerable, no one to protect him. just a vessel, sure, but it was the vessel that contained HIM and all his wonderulness. hopefully where he is now such things no longer matter..... "If u love somebody, your life won't be in vain
And there's always a rainbow, at the end of every rain."--peace and love, dear prince.....

Embalming is done by replacing the blood with a toxic, carcinogenic fluid. It staves off -- but does not stop -- the natural process of decay that returns the body to nature. It delays a process that would normally be completed within weeks or months to persist for years or even decades.
In either case, you're overlooking the obvious -- our bodies are organic matter. The moment we die, we begin returning to the earth and stardust of which we are made. Cremation is merely the fastest way to reach the same physical endpoint.

That is exactly how I've felt. The second I found out he was cremated I broke down. The first blow to the head was 4/21 itself, but finding out he was cremated was the second. Just knowing that his body is literally no longer walking this earth...forever...just completely broke my heart. I mean logically of course I know regardless we'll never see him again...but something about being cremated just really hits me to the core. From now on, 4 U I shall be wild 💜
