Embalming preservers the body for a long time. It would like he justs sleeping. Instead of his skull and body on fire like somebody in the lake of fire in one of The Terminator movies!!!

Embalming is done by replacing the blood with a toxic, carcinogenic fluid. It staves off -- but does not stop -- the natural process of decay that returns the body to nature. It delays a process that would normally be completed within weeks or months to persist for years or even decades.

In either case, you're overlooking the obvious -- our bodies are organic matter. The moment we die, we begin returning to the earth and stardust of which we are made. Cremation is merely the fastest way to reach the same physical endpoint.

I'm studying astronomy this quarter in college and yeah, it is interesting to say that we are technically made of "star stuff" is how it was put in my studies. The reality of any funerary practices, however, is a reality that's hard for most people to deal with...me included.

i know just enough about autopsy and cremation to know that i don't want to k ow any more.

what bothers me the most is that prince was so careful with his appearance, always dressed nice, always in makeup. and to know that a few, maybe a dozen, people saw him in the death state and that the m.e. and crematory people handled his body and saw every intimate imperfection and then basically destroyed his body makes me sick. he was so private in that way. i know they are professionals and i am sure they were respectful, but he was just there, vulnerable, no one to protect him. just a vessel, sure, but it was the vessel that contained HIM and all his wonderulness.

hopefully where he is now such things no longer matter.....

I hadn't thought about this. This just broke my heart.

oh, damn. i am so sorry, didn't mean to upset you.

nothing about any of this seems right, just, or fitting for prince. it just doesn't.

Oh, it's not your fault. My brain would have gotten there on it's own eventually. He was so dignified. He was regal. He was one of the last of a dying breed. He kept his private stuff private. So you're right. None of this is just or fitting. Surely where he is at now none of this matters.

The cremation bothers me more than the autopsy. sad Because he is really completely gone. Not a grave where one can grieve.

I dunno... when I think of "Rest in peace" I don't think of "Be burnt to ashes". confused

That is exactly how I've felt. The second I found out he was cremated I broke down. The first blow to the head was 4/21 itself, but finding out he was cremated was the second. Just knowing that his body is literally no longer walking this earth...forever...just completely broke my heart. I mean logically of course I know regardless we'll never see him again...but something about being cremated just really hits me to the core.

I had the nuts to watch the youtube demonstration and there showing the skull firery red and then smashed to pieces with a big old rod,,, I'm look who could do that to somebody. I wouldn't want to do that if I hated somebody! eek mad

Yesterday when I got off work I wanted to know more about autopsys so I researched some stuff and I couldn't even read them all...the thought of that being done to Prince made me cry and made me nauseous sad I'm more informed about the procedure now but that hurts me thinking about it.
