Yes, I understand that people living with cancer have reasons not to let people know prior to their death. I could certainly see a situation where if he'd had cancer, he'd have kept it secret until death.

However, I'm talking about what is released upon their death. It's similar to Bowie, where the world was informed upon his passing. If Prince had terminal cancer, does anyone think he'd have died without a will (or at least, without anyone knowing where it is)? Would his family and friends allow the public to operate under a drug OD assumption all this time, when a cancer diagnosis would look more sympathetic to many? Even if you are cynical and think the family would only care about maximizing the value of his estate (which I don't think is the case), the cancer hypothesis might actually increase the value of the estate because it removes the potential negativity that some (ignorant though they may be) have towards people who die from a drug OD.

Just my $0.02, but the cancer hypothesis just doesn't seem to add up.

There's this from the 18th, three days before he passed http://blindgossip.com/?p=77843

i agree but how and why did they come out with that only a couple days before it all fell apart, someone must have sold prince out for a few bucks. Probably some hanger on who got together with other people and came to the concluson that prince had aids.

Please google what a fentynal lollipop looks like... They aren't going to make a lollipop that is stronger than heroin look like candy so kids can get at it. So no he has not been walking around with fentynal lollipops.

Prince's Alleged Drug Dealer showed Prince's preference for Fet patches before it was announced Prince was administering Fetanyl.

In addition he goes into details that Prince suffered from extreme stage fright and needed them to continue on stage in front of people. He also goes into detail on him working at coachella as a roadie & giving Prince his supply. He says he has been giving prince his supply since the mid eighties. eek Take it all with a grain of salt, but it doesn't sound unbelieveable what Prince needed to keep the pressure at bay. It makes sense actually. neutral

the stage fright thing made me doubt his whole story, Prince may have had stagefright in the 80's but people with stage fright don't take any excuse they can to be in front of an audience. Marvin Gaye had to be smacked by Berry to get on stage, Elvis was a nervous wreck and admitted to it, Prince took to the stage like it was the only place that made him happy.

I am truly heartbroken.

Fentanyl. It is 80 times more powerful than morphine and 50 times stronger than heroin.

We know this is what killed him but how did he get it? Was it injected (yes the patches can be broken and injected by someone with a serious issue, as are tablet forms of medications hence naltrexone is sometimes added in medications to prevent this kind of abuse aka Suboxone is two medications not one) it can be ingested but usually is either dispensed as a patch or given in a hospital or clinic IV. It also comes in lollipops (for ill kids), lozenges and sublingual tablets but I have never seen them.

A patch is changed every 48-72 hours and takes 12-24 hours to kick in unless heated. Usually oral medications like Norco are given to "bridge" patches. It is used in chronic pain management sometimes terminal, sometimes not.

If not in patch form it kicks in pretty fast. If someone is not tolerant to pain medications it can kill them even using a patch as recommended/directed. One needs tolerance to use one in most cases.

Now we must ask, where did the fentanyl come from? Obviously not the pharmacy or the DEA would not have raided PP. What form was it in? Black market tablets (fake Percocets)? A patch? IV solution? How was it administered? And finally, why was Prince in so much pain? Was it physical or mental pain? Obviously no other health conditions killed him but it would be nice to know if something contributed to his pain.

Today was like losing him all over, but this time it was worse.

friends like that you don't need enemies. I'd like to think my friends would be different but I doubt it, we are alone, just like he said in Let's Go Crazy. I think it was in a Prince Bio, or it might have been one on Springsteen, where it made a salient point that all rockstars are schizoid, it's true, it's what gives them their charisma but it also causes a lot of their issues later on. Prince has said in interviews that he really didn't trust people and that he knew he'd be alone if he suffered a change in fortunes, those are internal things which manifest externally. Still, those guys don't have to be alone, they just need to accept people who will tell them when they are fucking up, instead, they fire people like that.

Someone could face criminal changes, possibily manslaughter. There is a reason the DEA is involved. Medications were obtained illegally or they would not still be investigating.

Something similar to this could happen:

Yes there's just no way he had stagefright. He just seemed so supremely confident every time he walked on stage. You can only fake that so much. And he had his whole "I am music" thing and he just felt that God made him to be a vessel to share the music and that he belonged up there.

.

I mean I guess it's possible, because he was so sensitive and shy, in general but the music just took him to another place and very, very unlikely he had stagefright to a level where he would take drugs for it.

The notion that Prince had stage fright is laughable, the notion that any fan who has followed Prince for some time could believe that is disturbing. He was most comfortable on stage, off stage he was not shy, that is what the press deemed him, he was simply guarded. Even Prince did not consider himself shy.

you may not have been wrong, i don't know. I do know that it is usually the "friends" and goofballs that people hang out with that get them wrapped up in this bullshit in the first place. My brother worked with a buncha losers at a burger joint 20 years ago, they all smoked so he started smoking, result is he is still smoking even though he knows it will kill him. does anyone have friends? sometimes I wonder.

also, i've read that one of our basic fears as human beings is not being excepted into our group. so, out of all the fears we have, that's one of our strongest. I guess I'm a freak cuz i'll tell anyone to go fuck themselves if they try to give me some of that shit.

also, i came across a term in studying Joseph Campbells Journey of the Hero, it was called "willfull introversion" meaning a hero will intentionally distance himself from humanity so that he can put all his energies and attention to accomplishing his goal. I wouldn't doubt Prince was this way, you can't accomplish shit sitting around lollygagging and being a good time charlie.

Is this real? He weighed 112 lbs. Oh, this is heartbreaking all over again. sad

It is heartbreaking. I'm really unsure the significance of his weight because he was a small guy and was always pretty fit. To put it in perspective, in boxing, the Flyweight division has a max weight of 112 lbs and the average height of those guys is 5' 5". ....I don't really know why I bring this up. Maybe because I thought he looked thin in the last pictures. I guess I expected his weight to be much lower and point to other health issues besides addiction...

You have to remeber that in America the weight standard is out of control and the norm is now to be over weight so for anyone to weight that blows their damn minds LOL.

Two weeks earlier, in his hometown newspaper:

http://www.startribune.com/officials-sound-the-alarm-over-deadly-synthetic-fentanyl-in-minnesota/374352711/

Preliminary tests by federal investigators have confirmed fears that a deadly synthetic drug nearly 50 times stronger than heroin has arrived in the Upper Midwest — often with fatal consequences for users.

Narcotics seized after a series of overdose deaths last month in the Fargo-Moorhead area — first thought to be heroin — instead turned out to be nearly all fentanyl, federal authorities say. It’s the second time in a decade that synthetic opioids like fentanyl, ordinarily used in medical settings to treat severe pain, have emerged from clandestine drug labs to sweep across the United States.

Now law enforcement and health care officials worry that synthetic versions of fentanyl, which can be added to heroin to boost its potency or passed off as high-strength heroin to unwitting addicts, will inflict a new round of deaths among both longtime addicts and younger users drawn into the opioid epidemic in recent years. Reports of fentanyl use cropped up in other parts of the country last year, but until recently it hadn’t been reported in Minnesota, where the Twin Cities is considered a transshipment point for narcotics.

“I think we’re in the storm now,” said Kent Bailey, assistant special agent in charge at the Minneapolis office of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Wow. I know heroin addicts who were injecting the gel which is crazy dangerous for many reasons. Just goes to show how powerful narcotics are. The Midwest is getting slammed with this stuff. In my county, last year- for the first time ever, more people died from Opiod overdose than car accidents.

How terrible. I'm really sorry to hear that. It's nuts. Question now is what can be done? It's all very upsetting.

We will never find all of the answers we are looking for. I just thank Prince for the funky time and the great music. And I hope that he is at peace wherever he is. But there are two things that I want to clear up here...

_

AIDS is a disease suffered by good and decent human beings the world over. There is no shame in living or dying with HIV or AIDS. People alleging he had AIDS may be sensationalistic, tabloidy and crass - but saying someone has AIDS to me is not a slander any more than saying someone has cancer or ALS or Alzheimer's. I just consider it to be another theory about his passing, but not a libel.

-

Addiction is also a disease that takes many forms and sweeps up many good and decent people. In the throes of addiction, many a good person has been lost. But addiction is not just about self control or moral superiority. It is a disease. And it should be seen and treated like one. A person trapped in percocet addiction or heroin addiction or alcohol addiction is still a person. Not a pariah.

_

It drives me nuts when people suggest that having AIDS or being an addict makes you "less than." We have no proof Prince had HIV/AIDS or any addiction - but if he did, it doesn't make him any less of a genius of a human or a child of God than if he didn't.

copy that

me too. Well said.

I don't understand why anyone would be outraged?

were you of an age where you can remember the 80's? That disease caused a hysteria unlike any other in my lifetime. People would be ostracized and treated like lepers for having it. That changed some but the first reaction was hysteria. It had to be similar to how people in olden times reacted to leprosy and the bubonic plague, but this was a lot different and completely irrational.

Lots of folks assuming Fentanyl came in a patch form. However, there has been a recent string of death by overdose in cases where Fenyanyl came in pill form disguised as a Norco tab. It was all over the news here in Northern California in April.

I really don't understand why there is so much speculation about him having cancer. People are claiming the evidence is in how he looked, but someone who has been taking opioids for a period of time often has no appetite, they lose weight, they look frail, they look sick... similar to the way you speak of Prince. Is there another reason why so many people thing he had cancer too? I just think these drugs took their toll on him, the way I have seen with many of my friends.

that could very well be, i've stated that I'd be comforted if he'd had a terminal disease, I just never saw Prince ending up like this, why? Too smart, too circumspective and a great historian on the history of our music. He wasn't a guy like Kurt Cobain who was really just a guy deeply in love with himself, or a guy like Hendrix who had such deep seated issues that living past 30 would have been a miracle for him. Prince was too great, too smart and just too fucking prideful and cool to let that happen.

And yeah- if anyone knew he was taking such a powerful painkiller, they should have had him monitored. And not taken 'I want to be alone' for an answer. But easy to say with hindsight.
