New Rolling Stone Commemorative Edition is pretty good Hope this isn't a dupe thread, but was at the grocery store and saw the Rolling Stone Commemorative Edition. It's not the regular monthly magazine. This is a $13.99 special, similar to the Time one. It seems to be reprints of a lot of past articles, but still lots of great pics and some new content. I bought it and seems worth it.

I've not been able to bring myself to buy any of the commemorative editions of magazines. The cynic in me thinks it's just a bunch of rehash, old ass pics we've seen a gazillion times, and the word "genius" overused (while I don't argue with the fact he was one, of course - but shit, use a thesaurus on occasion). I see folks on Instagram piling up memorial editions of magazines they'd otherwise not touch or pay attention to. It bothers me - not for them, but for me. They can do what they feel is right for them. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I haven't bought any commemoratives, either. I want to – but doing it means that someday I (or someone else) will throw it away. I can't even think about that right now. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I got this yesterday, as well as a Essence special edition of the same format. Funny how I see these during one-off visits to stores, and I grab them as I see them. I feel like a teenager with a pile of mags that I don't want to touch or smdge up, just sitting by the TV....

Is this the one with the 1999 era cover photo? I have it, but haven't read it yet.

I bought that because it came with the Sign O the Times DVD and a tribute CD. But I´ve heard that the US edition does not come with a DVD. . Other than that, there´s nothing in it that I haven´t read elsewhere before. The only other commemorative magazine I´d buy is the one by TIME...just because some orgers liked it a lot. But I have no idea what´s in it to make orgers like it so much.

Some occasions call for the latex gloves... just make sure no guests come in unexpectedly and start manhandling your mags...
