Your Prince Collection - What Would You Do With It...

What if the inevitable happened and you passed away....... who would get your Prince collection???

Of course you would make a Will stating who gets the entire collection or whatever of it. The only thing is.......... who would you give your collection to? Would they keep it and appreciate it?? Would you mind if family and/or friends sold the entire collection or parts of it on eBay to make some $$$$$???? Or donate it??

If no one knows what you want done with it or you have no Will, then that collection you have been proud of could end up in a dumpster or whatever eek

You know you cannot take it with you, right?

Hopefully the executor sells it and makes a few quid. Really though, I'll be dead so they can use it as frisbees for all I care.

Hopefully, it would all end up in my little sister's hands...

She was forced to listen to my favorite songs over and over again as kids, so she loves most of the old stuff anyhow, and would grow to appreciate the new stuff she hasn't heard yet. smile

For this very reason I've always said people should unseal those gems and play those discs. I've unsealed loads of my rarities in recent years just to enjoy the item and to enjoy life.

Hey now...that was unfortunately Prince's attitude towards it as well. At least leave them to friends and/or family with directions how to sell on ebay or whatever.

I'm listening to everything I have and about to get to some sealed ones too. They're all in a drawer beside my bed resting on silk. I was thinking about this the other day..what will be of them when I leave the earth? My husband of course,my son too! I know this sounds silly but i said to my husband I don't want to leave this world without my beloved music it means so much to me that I cannot believe one day I won't be able to play it listen to it or touch/ hold all of the albums that are with me now. One day it will be quiet but the rainbow would be to bump in to Prince up there.. Or maybe even back here.

I sold nearly all of mine and funded fantastic holidays for the family. The memories with them are worth more than any rare CD or platinum disc. It was also liberating not to hoard and collect. Whats the point? I freed up loads of space and I still have all the music.

Interesting perspective. Here I am trying to get my hands on as much rare stuff as possible but it's really all about the music, right?

Yes. The people I'm close to are aware of my wishes (and the potentail value) of all my music collection, but if they choose to ignore that and dump it all then there will not be a whole lot I could do about that.

I keep debating on wether to sell all my stuff and have a good time with the money, especially now prices are a bit higher, but every time I go on eBay to see what things are selling for I end up bidding on stuff that I don't have.

I just can't help myself, I think it's some form of sickness!! lol

No one in my family understands the VALUE of the Prince collection. My mother would probably ebay everything of mine for a profit.

Once I get the word I have cancer, I'm gonna seek out a new member here on the ORG and send my entire collection to him/her. It will be my dying wish to bring a smile to a new fan's face with the gift of MUSIC!

I'm reading some interesting comments about what others are doing with their own personal VAULT of music. It kinda reminds me of Prince's own personal stash of music.

I have some younger cousins, two in particular, who have great taste in music and a great appreciation for music and great artists. As far as I know they are not SUPER into Prince but they do respect him and my collection could help take them all the way haha.

We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

Well me and my mom talked about this a little while back with the whole no will situation came about. I know I don't have much but my music collection is a very important part of me. I have pretty much been collecting music my whole life, and I told her that cds probably won't be around forever, So, I pointed out that they might be worth something one day. Anyway we were talking about what I would leave and we talk my music collection. She knows it's one of my many important things that I hold onto so, I was telling her that she could probably sell it and if it didn't sell, she could just give it away for free. Just let people have it, be it in the family or whatever. Now she said she probably wouldn't sell them because she knows keeping them will remind her of me. So pretty much my Prince collection is included in that so, most likely that is what would happen.

I've thought about this. On one hand, it's just earthly possession that I will have no connection to once I die. I cannot take anything with me. I don't even know if I'll have my memories with me when I go to another place. So, I enjoy the music now, and just leave the vinyl to whatever person gets it.

On the ohter hand, I get worried about any of my stuff. Who is going to take it,and find what's valuable or a keepsake for my family, and who is going to figure out what's just stuff that can be thrown away. I have 428 pieces of vinyl, not including a small stack of 45s. Do I will those to someone? Who? I really have no idea. Maybe my brother. He likes Prince because I used to make him grab a tennis racket with me and be Wendy, and we'd act like "Let's Go Crazy". (Ironically they were Prince™ brand tennis rackets.)

And fuck - what about all my CDs? or my few DVDs & BluRays? Or my Kitchen Aid mixer, or my iPad Air 2, iPhone SE or Macbook Air? My camera. I don't know. I really don't. It's just stuff. Someone is going to end up with it, does it matter who? I can't be here to dictate that, or change my mind.

But I do hope it goes to someone who can appreciate it, and love it as much as I have.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I've been thinking about that too. Not only my Prince collection, but my overall vynil collection. I got some relics there. Beatles, Frank Zappa, the Woodstock original triple vynil, Santana, Bowie, Roxy Music, and so on. And will be inheriting a ton more from my hippie parents so I need to write this stuff down somewhere. I hope that in time both my kids will come to appreciate more these vynils. Right now they are very much into music, just different stuff.

you shall never hear that word!!! still, this was the sweetest thing I've read. bless you. and STAY healthy.
☮ & ❥

to be honest I wouldn't know what happens to my little precious collection. no one in my family or friends circle even likes prince a little bit (feel sorry for them, if ever they knew what they miss out)

so I think it would most probably just be chucked? I never thought of this. so maybe I should write a will...hehe. and make them find it! I think the thing I would like to happen is, that it would be sold to a true prince fan and then given to animal protection. my dog must be the only prince fan around me...*g* as he listens the same amount as me, and sometimes gets involved in some serious dancing cool
