Sign o Times DVD Hello all!! I bought the Sign O The Times DVD online via Amazon Marketplace. Naturally, since it wasn't produced in the US, I got it from a French distribution company. I have several laptops (don't ask - it's a work thang), and I was able to watch it on one of them by setting up the DVD player for Region 2 (European). HOWEVER. I would love love LOVE to be able to convert it to Region 1 (US) so that I can watch it on my own big screen TV. Any advice on how I might do this?
Thanks in advance! "Everything that's in your heart, come what may

I would suggest that the easiest way for you to do this would be to connect your laptop to your TV with an HDMI lead.

Well. Ahem. For all of my tech, I never even considered that. Thanks! "Everything that's in your heart, come what may

I just picked up a very expensive collector set of SOTT BLU-Ray from Japan. It just came today and wow it's amazing... However- it's all in Japanese. I haven't tried to play it yet and I thought I read online that Japan was same region and then I read it wasn't- I will totally buy a multiregion player to watch it if I must but I am also reading BluRay is split differently as regions and I can watch. In my reading however it appears most players can switch regions but you only have a limited number of switches- PS4 apparently let's you switch it 6 times. Anyway this collectors pack is awesome and appears to list all the tracks to Dream Factory, has outtakes... I only have one disc here, the bluRay itself and am going to have to investigate if there was supposed to be a second disc. I thought so but the box was sealed and is in PERFECT condition. So I can't tell if there was a 2nd disc or not. I'm totally jealous as to why this collector edition has no American version. It's gorgeous. Anyone know why they didn't make this for 'merica? Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Wow...I didn't even know he could sing in Japanese. No wonder it was expensive. [Edited 6/1/16 18:31pm] Money didn't matter last night....but it sure does matter 2day!

It is a beautuful package. I have it too. It will play in your player and it is 1 disc packaged with the special postcard pictures of Prince and the band as well as a special booklet.
Japan gets a lot of special items- inclucing bonus tracks and special editions of albums. Partly, it's because they appreciate it more, and it's also a way to cut down on bootlegging in the region. It's incentive for the Japanese to buy the more expensive domestic releases. Most of the American imports are cheaper in Japan, but the thinking is they will buy the made in Japan versions for the bonuses. [Edited 6/1/16 18:37pm]

Well the bluRay works on my PS4! I was able to turn off the Japanese subtitles and the picture is GORGEOUS. There is no option on this disc for outtakes- which is a bummer. The menu is in English. The trailer has Japanese words across it but the trailer voice is English. The chapter list is in English and Japanese. The book lists Dream Factory songs, 3 configurations... April, June, July. Lists tracks for Camille. Lists tracks for Crystal Ball- says "2CDR A Pimpsandwich Production". There's album art with writing on it but it's too small to read. The booklet is where it says SOTT Outtakes, 2DVDR No label. There are small stills Of what looks like tape edit. I'm guessing there are lyrics but also other stuff written. So outtakes exist? Anyway - you can find this on Amazon. Yes the Japanese version blu Ray plays on a PS4 without having to change region. The sound too is flipping incredible. I have another version on DVD, wanna say it's Canadian but the quality of this BR is making me very happy right now. I hope this sees a US release with all the variations of albums, and the outtakes... A book in English and the little extras included. Surprise, surprise.

It's too bad Americans can't have nice things. The Japanese are pretty awesome folks, but I'm jealous as hell! Surprise, surprise.

I KNOW!!! And about 6 or so years ago, they released the first 10 Prince cds in "mini LPs format"- each one contained reproduced versions of all the goodies from the origianl albums, including the posters and inner sleeves and the mail in cards etc from when they were first released.
It cost me a grip, but I bough them all.

Wow... I really hope the Purple Estate can come to agreement and whatever and release some awesome stuff cuz I'll buy it all. I just hope the majority of the money goes to good charities he worked with. Surprise, surprise.

I have 3 or 4 versions of this on DVD. . The far best version is the FREE version that was given away with the Observer newspaper. . Save your money and get the free version but you may have to pay just a little price for it now, but the sound and picture is amazing compared to other releases I have. . I've not seen the Japanese version. . The very easy way to get past the region coding is to re-rip the DVD and to either re-burn a DVD-R (single or dual layer depending on the size). Or rip the DVD to an MP4 for DVD or MKV for Blu-ray. .

Just get the Australian or Japanse Blu-ray. If you don't have a BD-player, get the Canadian DVD (if you're in Region 1 or have a region-free DVD player). © Bart Van Hemelen
