I would imagine there's little hope for your enjoyment of future Prince releases if The Rainbow Children doesn't inspire you. It's definitely among his most inspired works of art. Good luck! biggrin

Well you never know that is one of the reasons why I still like Prince. I don't have to like the whole album, I do like 3 or 4 song from TRC but the way it is presented turns me off. I have stated in other post that I think is output for past decade is just eh, but there are songs from everyone of those releases that I do enjoy. So I think I will be ok with his future releases and again who knows he may shock the world again.

I was just joking, fairlite. But on a serious note, I do believe what made Prince so captivating in the 80s was his desire to significantly 'change' on every album. That change process is taking alot longer as he's grown older, possibly because he's become more fixed on certain 'ideas' nowadays. Therefore, I expect The Rainbow Children's signature to be present for a little while yet. That's all...

Oh I agree fully, but I have a feeling thare will be another album from him that will set things on fire again even if it is just for a short time. I also think it will be unexpected to him and us. If not there still will be his past output to fall back on and re-discover things in a new way. Who knows I may go back to TRC sometime and my feelings for it may change. It has happened before with Around the world in a day believe it or not.

We shall wait and see what the future holds.

Fairlite, you've just described the expectation on Prince's next album. I think Prince knows it, and so do we. There are significant reasons why we are experiencing 'down-time' right now. Ask Boris...

I usually like to go with the underdog, but I have to be honest, it’s “SOTT”.

It just feels like a stunning portrait of the modern urban world. It has 10 to 12 songs that are of box-set quality, and perhaps a half dozen that are amongst the greatest songs written in the 20th century. Even the few lesser songs that might be overlooked on a weaker release find gravity here and propel the project onward.

At this point I’ve really haven’t encountered an album (and I’ve heard a few thousand) with this many extraordinarily brilliant songs; although Bob Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks” is perhaps right up there with it. But I always go with “SOTT” because of the diversity of sound.

Yep. Prince inspired and shocked himself again with "TRC". That's why he assembled his new world-class band and stunning tour. He isn't just going to drop anything for his next big release. He's back to wanting to make a mark, a statement, digging deep to only deliver the best.

Even his non-official albums right now are more cohesive than a lot of his big commericial releases. Just imagine what he wants the next studio one to sound like?

He simply can't go back to "Rave" after this; at least not without years and years of sliding downhill.

We're experiencing the quiet before the storm right now.

It's true, Controversy has received a fair trial, as has Around The World In A Day, with 3 votes each. I'm somewhat surprised that 1999 and Lovesexy didn't receive more attention. That said, Sign 'O' The Times has swept the board as the ultimate all-time favourite Prince album.

Can you imagine if the next Prince release equals his crowning artistic achievement on Sign 'O' The Times? It would set a tremendous precedent for his 25th anniversary release...

Both Exodus and Newpower Soul are sub-par releases, categorised under the New Power Generation section.
