Prince Thrown Out For...Messing Around? Soooo Mr. Morris Day shared this article today. Never heard THIS one before, I commented asking him if this is the for real deal, hoping he responds!

Am I just late or has this possibility come up before? I always understood it that he left as a slightly older teen for whatever his reasons were. "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

Wow really? I never heard this one. I've always heard the vague tough homelife thing. "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

haha that could explain "Gotta Stop (Messin' About)". But there are so many errors in that article, even in the captions to the pictures. It's tabloidy at best. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

morris shared the article? if he did then there must be truth to it since he most likely would know.

story was Prince was in his room with a girl, not doing anything, but his dad was very strict and booted him out. Pretty fucked up but I think it gives a hint of where Prince picked up his conservative streak.

Who hasnt been caught messing around as a teen...I mean was it serious enough to throw him out who knows...I think his family dynamics were just messed up

I think that's pretty obvious, his parents were not very good to him. It's been said for over 30 years that his self-reliance, his drive, his work ethics and control issues all came from his childhood. So, in that way it worked.

I agree...What happens to use as children shape what kinda person we become as adults. Obviously just seeing all the half siblings says there was a problem. Amazing that a person can rise above all that like he did.

ya, you never know how things will effect someone, James Brown had a helluva childhood, the kind that makes people street beggars and he made it work for him.

I dont know if any of those older siblings took Prince in or not, but its weird that the throwaway child is now the one who will take care of them.

absolutely true...strong willed just like Prince to be more than people said they would be.

no, Prince was taken in by Andre Cymone's mother who kept him until he was ready to be signed. She was a good woman by all accounts but still not someone who would erase the scars of abandonment. I mean, things go unsaid in those situations and Prince had to know he wasn't a real child and was at the bottom of the ladder. God bless him and God bless us because it lit a fire in him that still inspires. Prince stayed briefly with a sister in New York when he was hunting for a record deal but it was brief, some people conjecture that she was the one who inspired the lascivious "Sister". I think it was fiction and just made to shock and maybe take a jab at someone who may have pissed him off.

I never believed that "Sister" was true, but seriously I hope that Prince did right by Andre's mom before she died. God bless her soul. How great is that to take a child in and do right by that child thats not your child.

I never heard whether Prince gave her money or anything, him being so private, I could see him doing it and not publicizing it. there was never a major problem and they remained quasi-family even though Prince and Andre had a rivalry going on and other issues. I did read that Prince bought her a microwave, other than that, never heard anything else. She's always spoken well of Prince calling him a "good kid" and she once chewed his ass for not going to school, to the point of tears.

Maybe, but I have a feeling that Andre and his family actually made him feel like he was apart of their family

the biggest contribution Bernadette Anderson made to Prince was letting him play music anytime he wanted to and fighting off anyone who complained about it.

If Im wrong please let me know, but I read somewhere that Princes stepfather was abusive to him...theres no way as a mom Im gonna pick anybody over my child...not judging, just saying.

Sounds like she gave him needed discipline too...gotta respect the lady.

ya, but it happens a lot and ruins relations. Lots of women can't forgive a passive mom because she wouldn't believe that her girl was being molested by a stepdad. Prince's stepfather was strict and mean to him, made him do chores, I'm sure physical abuse is in his life somewhere and possibly even sexual abuse. Prince made the very best out of whatever he was handed. Like I've said, lots of people use those kinds of reasons to be a drunk and beg for your money at the local am/pm.

I just dont understand women or men who choose partners over their children I think the reason that most of us gravitated towards Prince as kids is because we can relate to his past...hell weve all been through stuff too and your right ususally this kinda stuff has negative outcomes on a persons life.

I dont know anything about his siblings. he's never really said much of anything re his relationships with them. so with that said maybe some of his siblings did say hey baby bro come stay here (are any of them even that much older than thim to have done that?), but being that they all came up similarly maybe that didnt seem like a fun/good idea. when your 12 or even a teen and u have that kind of choice why not go with your bestie? Yeah, growing up in an unstable home will lead to some neurotic tendencies like being a control freak, something I have in common with Prince. Love is God,

Prince said in early interviews that he didn't like being unwanted and didn't like being shuffled around. he also said that his step-dad was the one who didn't want him around. Andre alluded to the fact that P's mom didn't stick up for him and he kind of escaped to his dad's place. Dez and Owen have made similar comments over the years, but stop short of specifics.
Dez also said that Andre felt like he should've been P's #2 man since they grew together, but P didn't see it that way and it created friction. Dez also said that he was pretty sure that P and A had made amends by the end of the 80's.
I would love to read Tyka's book but I was never able to find it online to purchase it. Prince #MUSICIANICONLEGEND

Yeah its a tough situation. ive heard the step dad stuff b4 and part of me wonders how much of that was straight up abuse vs how much was Prince not being willing to accept a new man of the house AND his mom not doing a good job at mediating between them. the andre stuff is also kind of..yeah. i dont know much other than whats currently out there but i guess you just gotta chalk ksome of that up to youth and ego, unfortunately.. . No the Morris Day and the Time FB page is weird. All kinds of strange things are shared. I'm not sure who is in charge of it.

hard to say, prince addressed the topic in Papa but it's not clear who or what happened. In those days, beatings were commonplace. My black step-dad was a pretty tough customer too, it was just the way society and black men were at the time, nothing unusual. Be hard to get away with a lot of that stuff today. All I heard about the step-dad was that he made Prince pick weeds when he wanted to go play, if it went past that, i never read it. In fact, the step-dad once replied to journalists during the purple rain era "i'm the bad guy".
