Free with Purchase of Prince's Ultimate set

So I thought I'd relay this story from a few months back.

I was at Target to get a pair of shoes. Nothing fancy, obviously, but just something simple to putter around in. I found what I needed. I took a quick trip through the media section, and decided to pick up Prince's Ultimate. I'd just never purchased it, and since I had some extra cash that month, I figured I'd get it.

I get to the register, and the gal rings me up. CD - BEEP. Shoes - BEEP. She reads off my total, bags my stuff, I swipe my debit card, finish the transaction, and leave.

I get home, and thought - that isn't the right amount. I look at my reciept. The shoes never rang up. They beeped when she scanned them, but I mean - who's checking the price of every item? You hear a beep and think "It went through". I ended up only paying for the CD, and got the shoes for free.

Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

if only that set had the long verson of HELLO on it!

U see, words are like shoes
They're just something 2 stand on
I wish U could be in my shoes
But they're probably so high, U'd fall off and die
4 U words are definitely not shoes
They're weapons and tools of destruction
And your time is boring unless U're putting something down
What would life be if we believed what we read
And a smile is just hiding a frown?
Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes?

So this cashier might lose her job becUse she didn't check to make sure all the times rang up....

I don't imagine you feel the right thing to do is be honest and go back and pay for those shoes, do you?

Always gonna be someone coming in & turning on the lights. This was months ago, so no - I'm not going back. It's not even the cashier's fault. It's whoever programmed that barcode in their system.

If that would be a reason for a boss to sack someone, what kind of world are we living in then?

I know I am naive on this subject, but is it really only about $ & €?? I know the answer is probably "yes", but only thinking about that makes me sad and mad at the same time.
