So last night at work Im bored so I had a 20 yr old and a 30 yr old working with me and neither one of them had ever seen Prince's videos which made me sad So being the Nursey that I am I showed them D&P, Nothing Compares 2 u and I Would Die 4 U The 20 yr old has seen PR, but the 30 yr old said she knew nothing about him before he died but now she wanted to learn about him This made me sad...how many other Prince fans could there have been if they couldve seen his work? They seem to like Diamonds and Pearls the best

Some people just listen to chart music. Whatever is current. They're welcome to that journey. It isn't much of one though. I stopped being force fed as an infant.

I'm mid 40s and been told more than once folks my own age to "get with the times". Whatever the fuck that means.

I'm 33 and have been a Prince fan for as long as I can remember. The first album I can recall seeing at home and hearing was 1999. I remember Live In Syracuse being broadcast by the BBC in 1985 or 1986- I was 3. My parents recorded it and I wore that video out.

None of my friends in school were Prince fans. I took up the guitar at the age of 8- none of musician friends through high school liked Prince. I went to music school at 21- when asked who my favourite guitarist was and I replied with Prince, I'd often get strange looks. I could never understand why he was so under appreciated.

I can only guess that people are f'kin' crazy.

Now, they all love him of course.

People in the office keep telling me that my music is weird and keep askin why do i listen to old music, specially when they listen to Prince, they say his music is quite weird.

Well, his music IS weird. And so was he. You have to have a certain mindset to listen to him.

Of course, this would be the reason I've always liked him, because he was a weird little man and I was a weird little girl growing up. lol

Used to drive my brother crazy who preferred MJ.

On the plus side, tho, there was that time we collectively drove our mother up a tree by mixing that maniac laugh at the end of Batdance with the word 'hey' Terrence Trent D'arby's Sign Your Name. Good times, man, good times.

It has always seemed to me that for decades Prince has gone out of his way to make it harder for the present-day masses to appreciate the brilliance of his music. This is why I strongly believe his music will only grow in status over the coming decades/centuries. What matters is that 20yo/30yo people in 2050 appreciate his music

I can't say I'm not surprised some people my age wouldn't know Prince. I'm 31 and the only Prince stuff I was aware of were the songs "1999", "Diamonds & Pearls" and "Purple Rain." I did watch some of the few Prince related stuff on Youtube years ago and I never cared for most of his music. Now that a lot of his music is on Youtube, I realized that I knew a lot more Prince stuff than I was aware of like "Most beautiful girl in the world." I used to love that song back in the 90s. I didn't know it was Prince until April 22. Also, while gorwing up, I listened to whatever my aunt listened to ... EW&F, Rick James, etc. No Prince and I can see why she didn't let me listen to him as the lyrics were somewhat too grown for me at the time.

This is why as parents you have to let your kids hear stuff. I grew up in the 70s but I used to play my mums music all the time from the 40s, 50s & 60s - Elvis, Buddy Holly, Platters etc - I didnt live in that era but I learnt about it and I also shared this with my daughter - so she is not musically ignorant. She knows of many artiists I grew up with too & I in turn have always listened to her choices (the Spice Girls was her thing when she was younger - LOL) so it is up to parents to make sure that their kids get a taste of all genres of music. My daughter is not a Prince fan, but she at least it not ignorant. I guess it is a little like getting them to eat their veggies as a kid, you give them a taste and hopefully they will grow to like most of the veggies, but if they dont get to taste it, how will they know if they even like it? One of the girls at my daughters work did not even know who Lenny Kravitz was - and my daughter was shocked she did not know Lenny - and at that moment, I was proud I had introduced my daughter to a wide choice in music.

From Prince? it's incredible how can they ignore this genius.

When I was younger, I remember everybody making fun of this one guy for being a Prince fan. Had to be around when Musicology came out.

Like most I realized how amazing he could be during the Superbowl halftime show. (Releasing the turd that was Planet Earth afterwards was the worst business decision ever) Took me a few years after to turn into a superfan but I grew to love nearly everything he's done (except Jazz Prince is still beyond me)

Never really seen his music videos. Have seen recorded live shows. Dirty Mind and The Black Album were the two albums that really flipped the switch for me.
