The Sign O The Times Movie = Greatest Things He Ever Did

I hadn't see it since the 90s on VHS but I finally got a nice copy on DVD allegedy "digitally mastered" and it reminded me why I became such a huge fan all them years go. Why was this never issued on DVD in the states? I guess the same could be said for that Prince & The REvolutin VHS.

yes it's mind-blowingly good! even though a lot of it of it was recorded on a soundstage with pre-recorded music (or overdubs) - it's still amazingly good.

I also think the Lovesxy tour was the dogs, but as it was in the round the camera's don't pick up the action very well - needed much better cinematography to do it justice.

We were all ready to sit down for a family dinner one night and that movie was playing on HBO. I had it on, my father (no lover of modern music at all, anything past Benny Goodman or Sinatra he was dismissive of) stepped in and started watching the film. Maybe it was the "Now's The Time" song that caught his attention. Well, anyway, dinner was served late that night because he couldn't stop watching the film. Watched it to the very end. Could tell he enjoyed it.

.

That movie could win over any music fan. It's a great film.

It's great but a little bit overrated, i do prefer the album versions over the live versions.

You can get the professional blu-ray or DVD now from Amazon. No alleged quality. They are the real deal.

It's not easy to find a DVD with NTSC or All regions for a reasonable price in the USA (Blu Ray easier). The one I have is very good quality. I'm happy with it. It must be legit.

Everytime I watch this film... goosebumps. If you can only spend 60 minutes trying to convert someone to Prince, this is the place to start IMO.

I agree! The first time I watched this, I had to watch it again and again. It was an incredible experience from start to finish.

Yeah. If I had to choose something from his entire body of work that captures his greatness the best then that would be it. Made a Facebook post about it too after he died.

I remember seeing Sign O the Times at the movie theater when it was out. I loved it. I think I've seen it one other time, maybe on HBO. I'd love to see it again. The Sign O the Times album is one of my favorites. I still have it on vinyl.

Thanks for posting that interview. I do disagree with her statement about "U.T.C.M" not being a "funky/r&b" record...Interesting how he was unsure if "Girlfriend" should have been the single.

Thanks! saved.

Yes, SOTT the album is just one of his masterpieces. Like the SOTT concert movie as well of course but for me, the Lovesexy concert is where it's really at! yes

Cat should have gone into acting, after her solo album didn't work-out.

The story interludes could have been really cheesy with someone of lesser charisma and presence than Cat.

not sure how many, but a lot of the songs from the film are studio versions, so it's like an alternate version of SOTT album. The HQ versions on youtube are amazing!!!!
