Yes, I loved that about his 90s singles. For me, it all started with the Gett Off maxi singles and all those different versions. I liked some, disliked some others, and LOVED Violet the Organ Grinder....basically more of a whole new song than a remix.

Sure, he started much earlier with the extended versions, in the early 80s....but those 90s remixes were so cool.

The Universal Love remix of Space, the incredible I Hate U remix with those adlibs, and Eric Leeds´s saxophone version. I Hate U was one of the last great remix singles.

But then again, there was also the Come On remix, which was also pretty cool. Then he took a long break and came back with the ManOfWar and HotWitU remixes....those were not so great.

How do you feel about those late 90s remixes?

Or The Dance?

.

Too bad that he didn´t put the rock version of Space onto the Space maxi. But it probably would have sounded a bit out of place there.

Yes, I loved those you mentioned. Especially the I Hate U Extended Remix with those extra lyrics (I'd pay somebody to knock you off...) . And Cream, even tho Do Your Dance is just a throwaway I like it and the Etheareal Mix. . I've always wished the Come maxi-single/EP got released, as mentioned on Prince vault. There would have been a few great variations on that leading into 18 & Over. . I agree on the Man O War and Hot Wit U remixes - they weren't great and also agree on the Come On maxi that was probably his last decent one. . With regard to the Space rock version - where's that from, is it out there?

U gave a dog,

and now your ass

is all alone.

I hate U !

lol Love that remix!

And don´t forget stuff like Get Some Solo.

I´ll gladly admit that I have also always liked Clockin the Jizz.

Sure, it has tons of Tony M. in it but still....love that cool guitar solo at the end.

.

Regarding your question....a rock version of Space does exist, it was mentioned by Michael Bland here on the org many, many years ago when he was occasionally posting as ebonyrhythmbuddha.

According to him, it sounded great, and he said there are many alternate versions of many songs that we´re familiar with.

But no, it is not out there, at least not to my knowledge.

There are some rawer sounding, less polished Gold Experience songs in circulation but not the rock version of Space.

Yes I couldn't get enough of the Gett Off single and video back then. Gett Off (Housestyle) is probably my favourite version of Gett Off.
.
I remember Michael B being on here. He actually answered a question of mine. I asked him if Shhh was his best moment on a P record and he said no and I think he said it was either The Morning Papers or And God Created Woman.
.
Another maxi I loved was The Good Life. The Big City Remix was quite funny (testicles 1,2!). And surprisingly the Dancing Divas Mix was a big club tune here in Liverpool. It was bizarre hearing P and Sonnys sped up vocals in the clubs with people chanting 'fantasy never hurt nobody, good life' and no-one even knew it was Prince!

That´s another good one. :lol:Loved that remix. Had so very, very little in common with the original song (which I also love).

^^^^^ some strange ass lyrics though, wouldn't u agree?

.

Always felt he blew it by one word on this line:

"With eyes that go somewhere between rubies and stars."

Rubies should have been replace with "moonbeams." Fits the lyric and song title better.

"With eyes that go somewhere between moonbeams and stars."

Better. And that's actually the way I sing it when I sing along.

Love this song...for many years thought the lyric was "everything I want to do with your body I would do to your hand" and not "to your head" which changed the meaning of the song quite a bit. I like this song in the same way I like "Glam Slam", they have always kind of hit the same spot for some reason.

The first time I heard Space I though it was "hand" too. Now I have read in many places that he liked to seduce woman with his mind so the lyric does make sense.

Space always has, and always will be my favourite Prince song. The accoustic version. I can never count how many times I've listened to it. No matter the mood, Space always works. heart
