I dislike the sound (producion) do this album so much that I find it hard to listen to most of the songs. There are some great tracks, but even them sound largely lifeless... I remember back at in the day playing Damened if I Do to a friend and him asking me if Prince was trying to sound like the Spice Girls... Anyway, my tracklist: 1. Jam of the Year 2. Right Back Here in My Arms 3. Somebody's Somebody 4. In This Bed I Scream 5. Dreamin' About U 6. Joint 2 Joint 7. The Holy River 8. New World 9. Face Down 10. Style (edited to about three minutes) 11. Sleep Around 12. My Computer 13. The Love We Make

I don't like debating digital vs analog, but it's interesting that quite a number of people have pointed out the sound of Emancipation.

As you probably know, I think around this time Prince ditched tapes and switched to ProTools (correct me if I'm wrong). Do you think the "lifeless" sound has anything to do with that?

I notice "The Love we make" is on nearly every list, easy to see why, it is a perfect Prince song and I even think Prince himself loved it and knew it was a great song.

.

He even played it on his last tour, he played most of it at the 2nd Auckland show on February 24th and he interrupted it, to go into Adore, I nearly died.... cool

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

This may be a record for the longest time we've ever had between threads for the topic of Emancipation as one disc. I guess we've been a bit distracted by P's passing and all forgot to post it. lol

This is something that can never be agreed on, even when we vote on it, (Woah, that was 13 years ago, time flies!):

http://prince.org/msg/7/37183

There's a few tracks on the voted for list which I can't stand. My list as it is today would be :

Jam Of The Year

Face Down

My Computer

One Of Us
The Love We Make
Courtin' Time

The Holy River
We Gets Up
Saviour
Emancipation
Slave
Betcha By Golly wow

1. The Holy River

2. Somebody's Somebody

3. Face Down

4. My Computer

5. Betcha By Golly Wow

6. Joint to Joint

7. The Human Body

8. One Kiss at a Time

9. Sleep Around

10. Dreamin' About You

11. La La La Means I Love You

12. White Mansion

13. The Love We Make

Key tracks for me are "The Holy River," "Somebody's Somebody" and "My Computer" ... I'm oddly mixed on "Face Down" which seems awesome to me sometimes but doesn't quite work for me others (although it's sure memorable), and while "Sleep Around" isn't among my absolute favorites, I think a radio edit of it with proper promotion would have been a hit as lead single.

*(I understand why the covers aren't getting votes, but I really like P's vocals on the soul classics)

better late to the party then never at all.... here is my top 12 (which was difficult to do... I have always loved this album)...

(in order as they appear on the release... haven't thought about a different sequence yet..

1. JOY

2. Somebody's Somebody

3. Betcha By Golly (This song + the video really captured how happy he was @ the time...for him

to not have the words to express how in love he was...that was pretty amazing)

4. I can't make u love me

5. Soul Sanctuary

6. Dreamin' About U (one of my top 10 Prince songs ever!)

7. Holy River

8. Savior

9. Friend, Lover...

10. Slave

11. Face Down

12. The Love We Make

and can I fade out with a "hidden track" (track 77 biggrin of the last 4:22 on of "In This Bed I Scream"...wow

and the bonus cut would be "Goodbye"

that's a disc!!!! I could easily add more (it's hard to cut them out...like Sleep Around, New World, Human Body, Joint 2 Joint, One Kiss at a Time, Let's Have a Baby)....
