The performance of "purple rain " from the AMA awards in 85 was emotional .I love the part when he does his guitar solo and kicks the mic stand down There's Joy in repetition

The performance of The Love We Make from Montreux in 2013 is on repeat for me right now. It isn't overly emotional but it's Prince on a different level. He's just playing the keys, masterfully I might add, and his vocals are superb. I'm so used to him playing lead guitar that it's nice to see Donna take the reins and throw down such a tasteful, skilled solo. For some reason this song, all versions and performances of it, have been my go to since his passing.

"A Case of You" Atlanta - 10 pm show, April 14, 2016. So emotional that Prince had to walk off the stage for a few minutes afterwards.

I never believed Prince's emotional pleas on stage. Yes, the AMA awards of the song was farken amazing, but not once did I believe he was going to burst into tears playing it.

I feel your sorrow even deeper I've been in the purple family since the divine 80's If you're looking for an emotional Prince performance I recommend His Arsenio Hall performance of Purple Rain I remember seeing tears in his hazel eyes It originally aired in the 90's Check it out FAM Stay strong

that's fucked up.
anyway, i'd say some notable ones are Avalanche, I love You but I Don't Trust You Anymore, Way Back Home, amongst many others those stand out.

Also the fact that he marks a long pause during the verses: "Put down the needle, put down the spoon". whilst closing his eyes and actually sings this verse not twice like in the usual version, but 3 TIMES, suggests that he might have been trying to tell us something and it even looks like the song is a plea (to God?) for help. I agree that his vocals are magnificent in this performance and added to the fact that this is one of my all time favourite songs, makes it so far one his most emotional performance, in my opinion. It depends what you mean by emotional. His live performances of Empty Room are simply spectacular as the song involves an amazing guitar solo. The Montreux 2009 performance will blow you away - it's like he's channeling from some other source - I'd highly recommend viewing this. . * This isn't his most emotional performance but if you're watching Montreux 2009 - When I Lay My Hands On You (Live) is worth listening to.

The Love We Make from Montreux 2013, I'm with you on that! Just shared a bit of it on Instagram last night. Many have seen it, only a few likes, but that's okay. He wasn't exactly mainstream. I simply love it, the way he sings, plays, looks and everything. Still strong in body and definitely in soul.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

This is true. The best musicians in concert are the ones that can emulate the emotion of the songs over and over, night after night. Of course, Prince could not dredge up those emotions each time he played a song but he was the best at making the audience feel like he was. Some of the best Prince moments are when he gave us something other than his stage persona, those were fantastic. But he was a MASTER at the stage persona.
